so do you think there will be anything left of Sauvie this evening seeing as everyone in the tri-state area (Except me) was ripping her up all night long yesterday.
I'm leary of the "15-19" forecast. Sometimes I think George does that just to get a rise out of us. |

| The only thing that worries me is that it is blowing east in the gorge. From my understanding easterly wind in the gorge usually means skungage at Sauvies. It may be time for the magic 8 ball. |

Rideable, but with the current, lots of wind is always good. Launch the same way and hope that the wind doesn't shut off!  |

Seriously though my thought process yesterday was that easterlies would be stronger and that would be bad for Sauvie (no s) I think. Today the easterlies look weaker than I thought yesterday so maybe Sauvie is better. It looks pretty windy at Scappoose already. Does it get stronger than 15-19 in good northerly flow?
As you all have stated many times a sensor would be soooo helpful. Help us find a location and I will try and push the installation.

| I'm not sure why they are forecasting decent winds for sauvie but they are. Typical east wind means no sauvie. in addition, they said jones wouldn't develop...how does that work, no jones but Sauvie? |

I think last night was pretty N, because it was kinda onshore again.... and I think it was def. stronger than 15-19.....just really up and down.

George,
Everytime you forecast higher than 14k winds at sauvie I get closer and closer to a relationship explosion.
It does it get windier than 19 but only very rarely, like super rare. the angle of the wind also play a big part at Sauvie as there is a great deal of tree cover to the east and if the wind starts sliding east it disappears rather quickly.
In terms of a sensor, I hunted and pecked around for awhile but there is no phone line out that far. And although there are power transmission lines are right near the beach, I can't imagine fish and wildlife letting you set up a power on the public beach. All the private land is lower than the berm and therefore in a serious wind shadow.
Do you guys have solar powered wireless sensors? If you have some kind of self contained unit I could talk to the regional ODFW manager, I used to work with him way back in the day. |

Thanks, this all really helps.
I know there are a couple of remote sensors in SF Bay but they are on buoys and are pretty secure as far as vandalism or theft. I think that has been the concern in the past with this type of installation. I have past this question on to management at iKitesurf so I will at least be able to answer the question soon. It is good to know you have a contact if we can get anything going.

Well, what if we install a solar(self-sufficient) sensor up 15ft on one of the pillings....I don't think any vandals would make it up there...
-then again, methheads have broken windows for spare change before.

I think its more a question of ikitesurf paying for the thing. I can understand though, its not like we have been BEGGING FOR A SENSOR FOR YEARS!! Every year it says the same shit on the Sauvie page..we wold like to put a sensor here, e-mail us with any info..
As i recall, my monthly charges doubled this year. next thing ya know they will take George away in august.

For the solar powered remote sensor to work, we need two locations. 1 is for the wind sensor and a 2nd location to collect the data. The second location must have power and phone and have a clear line-of-sight to the wind sensor. I have not ever been to the beach where you kite. Are there any buildings within site of a good sensor location?
