Gorge: BOTG Blowout participants should have access to a solidly windy day after 10-11 AM as an upper-level trough edges into the coastal zone today while a front tiptoes up to the beaches, pushing a prefrontal surface ridge into the Willamette Valley while pressures fall out east. I was initially a bit pessimistic about wind quality in the Corridor and for Stevenson fearing that low clouds would be an issue, but hi-res models aren't showing this to be as big a factor as it appeared as recently as last night. That means we'll be able to leverage pressure gradients around 0.15" (Stevenson to the John Day Dam) and really solid thermal gradients (mid-70s in Stevenson and upper-80s in Arlington) to power low to spotty mid-20s westerlies in the Corridor, mid to upper-20s for Doug's and upper-20s to low-30s out east in the afternoon. Both the pressure and temperature gradients are shifted a bit further east than I'd like to see for optimal winds at Stevenson's Kite Beach, but I still think we'll build at least upper-teens there. |
