Sat Apr 27, 24 2:09 pm HR local wins King of the Cove |

So, I forget his name (Rick? Nick?) but I'm told this dude flew in from HR the morning of the event (yesterday), and took it all. He was on orange slingy kites, and yeah, the crowd cheered his moves.
King of the Cove is a big air freestyle event set in the 3D water of the SF ocean beach shorepound. You drop your kite there it's line wrap and inversion city, and that happened to more than one competitor. Loops, boardoffs, S-bends, megaloops expected and judged. Heats of 3, throw as many tricks as you can in the 6, 10, 15 minute heat, top 3 scores make up your score for that heat. Good event, I'm glad I hauled my ass over there to see it.

That is awesome! I was checking the OB cam yesterday
https://www.surfoutlook.com/surfcam/sanfrancisco/ocean-beach
and noticed some kiters hucking some big jumps. I didn't even know there was a competition going on, only that there was some obviously good riders in the water.
Seems like the younger generation is always pushing the envelope. BTW, I just looked at the OB cam today and the place is going off again with what looks like really strong side onshore wind and good waves.

with the onshore wind I was wondering how long before someone boosted onto the beach or got dragged up the sand.

That was the only one on the beach, and I did watch the whole event from start to finish. In his case I think the longer runout to the beach was deliberate, he'd just gotten a bunch of assistance with an inverted kite, and there were hoots of "ya better do something cool now". So he did a crowdpleaser, followed by a rail-sharpener departure.
