How is kiting there? Last two times I was surfing there someone pumped up a kite. Seemed like both times they went downwind. One day it was a 11 meter Sonic with a directional and the next time I saw someone it looked like one of the new yargas then I saw the yarga rolled up outside two doors down from my buddies beach house. Someone kites there.

I'm planning on going camping and surfing there this weekend and I wanna bring the kite.

Andy

embarrassed to say i was the 11m Sonic. i've done that short downwinder from the restaurant to the turnaround on my twinfin board 6 or 7 times. it's a good way to cap off a good morning of real surfing. wind is fluky at first b/c of the headland but gets better as you go downwind.

i tried using my strapless surfboard that day you saw me (forgot the twin). needless to say, i got no strapless skills in waves and coupled with very light wind... i'm sure it was interesting to watch.

if you really want to kitesurf prob go elsewhere. but if you don't want to drive after surfing its a pretty fun downy! cool thing is you can easily selfland your kite just over the bluff where the turnaround parking is.

kite their when I can the wind is a little weird but if you do down winders it is not bad if you drive down the beach from the turn around it gets better(requires a seriouv 4x4). tier del mar to the north works as well

agree with tstansbury...

you can drive on the south end of the beach, but the trip to the sand is a lot easier than the one back to the pavement!

i've heard the beach north of the cape is good... i haven't made that trek yet....

also, the wind hasn't been that great out there lately.... sometimes, I shoot up to manzanita, or down to lincoln city... newport is within 1 hour.
