Like many others, I use this forum as a tool for gathering information on beaches I tend to kite at through out the gorge corridor. lately I have questioned the quality of posts, however I disregard them and move on.

I'll agree that if you want equipment reviews, comparisons, or whatever go to kiteforum.

regarding newbie posts and stupid questions, one should ask themselves before posting, " is this a good question that deserves to be discussed on a forum?" as many people will read it and make there judgement on how to respond.

i am puzzled why there is so much anger and abuse (for lack of a better word) this season on this forum.

This is a safe forum..? Right? You want people to post to this site and you want newbs to ask, "Dumb" questions.

If you make fun of stupid things in the past you are setting a very bad climate..

Like, "how gay will Sauves be tonight??" ect..

Not a good idea,

Very Happy

How gay will Sauvie's be is a legitimate question. Perhaps its somewhat of an inside joke. If someone new to the forum came along and read the post they could probably get the fact that it was a funny way to find out if Sauvie was going to be kiteable or not. It also shows that people here have a sense of humor and get along well.

IMHO, this is a fantastic forum with almost no flaming going on at all. There is some joking and put downs, etc but typically people are big enough to handle it. You want to see some real piss and vinegar and people acting like little poopy pants baby's? go to kiteforum. Almost every thread degenerates.

Unfortunately, you seem to have found a way to kick the bees nest so to speak with some of your posts. If you are spreading information that is not all that good..(cough...leashes are fine..cough) then your going to get some shit for it. Period. You put it out there and people are going to respond to it.

I challenge you to find a post where a newb asked a question and someone said "that is stupid". Quote it and I'll buy you a 6-pack.

Finally, In terms of forums and questions, etc. I think that Mr. Garrison says it best "there is no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid people"

Na, we didn't pose, the photographer sucked. Smile

We should have some jousting at one of the sandbar parties sometime soon.

Being the target of a lot of negativity on this forum isn't so bad, I've caught my fair share. You have to keep in mind the internet is for two things, porn and fighting. Don't take shit so seriously.

I was fairly new to the forum when I asked about ankle weights and people told me that I deserved a darwin award - that I was stupid and that i was lame and that I was gay. I'll take coronas please Very Happy

OK seriously - I know people are saying that if I want comparisons of gear I can go to kiteforum - however, I don't want to go to kiteforum - I'm not even a member over there. The fact of the matter - it would be useful to get local guys' opinions about gear for the specific riding conditions in the area. Also, I know a lot of these guys on the forum and trust their opinion. I don't know people on kiteforum. So if someone says something on this forum I will be inclined to give them more weight. For example, look at the forum regarding leashes - I have changed my mind regarding leashes. Why? Because someone I trust provided an example that honestly scared me. If someone I didn't know posted that same example I don't know if I can trust them.

If you take someone's opinion on a forum you have to take it with a grain of salt - how do you even know if the person is a kiteboarder? Maybe its some 12 year old kid who has nothing better to do but hang out on random forums and misinform people (he reads enough to know what to say).

Thats why I feel it would be beneficial to have one thread discussing gear v. gear. I would like to hear what experienced riders (that I have seen rip shit up) have to say about certain gear. And yes, comparisons are important. I know there are a lot of great kites on the market, but it would be good to know which kite would have the biggest bang for the buck for my riding style in the gorge. Give it two weeks - see where it goes. If it deteriorates - then lock it and then so be it

In order to have truly non-bias kite comparisons you would have to have all of the following conditions to be true:

1) No brand allegence what-so-ever, no deals, no history of favoring a brand, no friends working for the company or shop or school who sells it.

2) Exact same size comparisons with exact same wind and water conditions, same day back to back testing.

3) Kites could not have been paid for, they would have to be demos.

4) Rider preferences such as liking to ride lit vs. liking to ride underpowered, preferring kite turning speed or through the window speed, unhooked no-whip wake jumps vs. boosting, heavy bar pressure vs. light bar pressure, kites that sit back in the window vs. forward in the window, kites that respond small sheeting movements vs. kites that respond to more bar movement... Any preferences toward any of these areas would have to be put aside.

5) Durability would have to be tested so you'd need to repeatedly pummel the kite into the ground and water, tumbled by waves, over pumped and flown, under pumped and flown, wrapped in lines.

6) Quick release tests under extreme loads and in unfamilar circumstances (pull a kiteloop then try to pull your QR.) Kite leash would also need to be tested in varying wind conditions.

7) Different rider weights, board sizes and shapes would need to be tested.

8 ) Relaunches in light wind, relaunches in heavy wind, inversion testing.

...

It could go on... What conclusions would you maybe draw? Uh I dunno, maybe that the kite flies and it turns and pulls you across the water.

If you talk to people in the industry they will tell you more or less anything is possible when it comes to kite design, it all comes down to preference. What feels good to one person might feel like crap to someone else. But really most people won't even notice the difference.

There are some truly big differences when it comes to kite shape (C vs. SLE) and I think those discussions are interesting. But we should keep brands out of the discussion. To me people are far too passionate about kite brands to have reasonable discussion about it on the forum. KiteForum is a good example why, all the brand fanboy's and haters flaming each other all day.

If you really care so much about the different kite designs then I encourage you to demo different kites. I think its awesome that its easier than ever to demo kites and boards these days. The companies are figuring out that if people can try before they buy, then they are much more likely to buy. We're so lucky to live in a part of the world where hooking up these demos is no problem, take advantage!

Anyhoo, its windy and time to go kiting! Very Happy
