Info. on Pascamayo,Peru

Looks like headed there 1st of June /23 . 5 days Pascasmayo/5 days Punta Luna . My go to board strapped is a Sling Tyrant 6' ,planned on that w/ lease and 8/10/12 Cab. drifters . I'm 178 lbs will be using 4/3 wetsuit . Anyone been and have suggestions on gear or particular info. on Pascasmayo town ?

Will a 4/3 be enough to keep you warm? Is it hooded?

I haven't been to Pacasmayo in over a decade, but the town at that time was almost void of gringos. The place was a very authentic Peruvian town with fantastic restaurants and an unbelievable farmers/central market. I was there for June and July, water temp was like 62-65 degrees and used a skimpy 3/2 full suit and booties since it is a cobblestone point break.

If you happen to get some long period SW swell while you are there, then prepare yourself for the longest waves of your life.

Thx .for replies. I plan on bringing booties just in case but don't think the rocks would be worse than what I have dealt with in the past . Bringing a Neo cap as well. I think the 4/3 might be over what I need but will flush it if needed .

I’d recommend getting a bigger kite or bringing a foil if you’re comfortable in waves. There are some light days out there

Don’t go too far inside and don’t forget to really get up to the top of the point

Went there in September and was expecting light winds but 8m was the call then. Locals said April/May was prime season with frequent 30kt winds. You might want to bring a 6-7m if forecast looks strong. 4/3 with booties was okay in September and should be a bit warmer in June. I could never get over the use of leashes there but most seem to wear one lest they lose their board to the waves.

People either launch off the point and drift northward or from beach by El Faro which is popular lodging spot for visiting windsurfers and kitesurfers. Most riding is off the point to the north and west and in the area between El Faro beach and the point. Drifting much downwind of El Faro beach and wind apparently drops off but waves do persist down to the pier in town. Surfing is done there but not as great as Chicama to the south.

There are many smaller hotels in town and it is an easy walk or mototaxi ride to the launch. El Faro runs around $100/night which is 2-4x what they charge in town and is maybe 10-12min walk to the center of town. Not much to do in town but there are several good restaurants with good ceviche, churriscuria and a couple of juice bars. Liked having lunch with La Tia Fina close to the upper boardwalk. Not really set up for foreign tourists but most can manage with basic Spanish skills. Bus to Trujillo with easiest connection to Lima stopped since start of COVID. These might be restored but only alternate are taxis or private drivers to Trujillo for $100. Would opt for flying Lima to Trujillo over bus which I did on one leg, cheap but very long and monotonous ride.

There are other good kite spots to the north including Los Organos and Lobitos. Went to Mancora 15yrs ago mid-summer and wind was flat with some surfing smaller waves. People kite there but I think the wind is better at points to the south. Lima has kiting but I didn't have a chance to check it out but found restaurants there to be amazing. Have fun!

Thx .again . I am going with two who have been there last year so I do have some guidance but wanted others perspectives/Info. 12 mtr is the biggest kite I own so I will just deal with that. I have heard May/June was best wind so if I make luggage weight I will throw the 6 mtr Drifter in the bag .
