The Event Site kite launch/land pad will close on Friday, July 1st for the remainder of the summer for safety concerns due to crowds. When the sandbar is underwater the beachgoers have no where to go so that forces too many people in the Event Site Park for safe launching and landing of kites. This may pose a challenge to kiters if the water remains high.

The Port will bring in several large dumpsters and additional port-a-potties that will be located across the waterfront for the 4th.

WATER QUALITY: The Port received notice yesterday, Sunday June 26th, the Hook, Waterfront Park, The Event Site and Nichols Basin all met quality met relevant water quality standards. The warning signs have been taken down. The Riverkeepers Swim Guide does not yet reflect this, hopefully they will get it updated today. https://www.theswimguide.org/beach/1580

The Marina launch is an option....

please let's be real here- the marina is a double black diamond launch in the best of times. The way it is in this high water condition means if you make a mistake, your best outcome will be a shredded kite. It's not a good time to launch from the marina for your first time especially when the spill over from all those non-kiters who are forcing the Port to shut the ES down will be joining you at the marina as well.

Selling the marina as a reasonable launch for most people is in bad faith, ignorance or arrogance.

Dude don't kill the messenger, he's just giving options. With the high water your point about the Marina launch is valid but any decent kiter can manage it and every kiter needs to take personal ownership of their skill set at every launch they ride from.

There's also Rock Creek, Rowena, and Rufus. Lyle and Dougs is a no go for now. Doug's from the Discovery Center is advanced. Stevie is advanced.

When long holiday weekends are always packed with clueless non-kiter tourists alongside new kook kiters fresh off their lessons we all have to be more patient and go with the flow.

If you have difficulty.....

- flying blind
- riding upwind
- adjusting for wind shadows and gusts
- relaunching with ease
- self landing
- body drag in fast current

.....you might want to sit the crowds out until those butterflies in your stomach stop feeling like pterodactyl's.

For everyone else.....spread out and boost away!
