Mon Mar 07, 22 2:42 pm PNW Prone Surf Foilers?? |
|
|
I've been prone surf foiling on the Oregon Coast for a few years now and I'm tired of doing it by myself.
Unlike regular surfing, it is way more fun to share the waves.
In my time I've seen a handful of people out there, but haven't found a crew yet.
I mostly go to Sunset Beach (Gearhart 4x4), Indian Beach and sometimes Pacific City.
For conditions, I'm looking for 2 to 3 ft. at 7 to 10 seconds.
Super high tide or super low tide are best.
I do a lot of mid-week day trips.
Looks like it is gonna be small (and good) all week.
Shoot me a PM if you want to meet up!!

There are a few guys here in Newport/Lincoln City area that prone surf foil in the waves occasionally. But, it is rare to have good conditions suitable for foiling in the surf here (small waves that are breaking softly in deep enough water to not be hitting bottom with the foil wings).
Ideal conditions like what you find in Hawaii just are not readily available around here. Check out this video from Waikiki for some mind melting surf foil perfection:

That's what typically goes through my mind as well. What is the best spot on the northern Oregon coast for lumpy rolling waves that are accessible (not just during mid-summer)? |

Agreed, that Hawaii video was dreamy.
I got to foil-surf in Maui this past Nov and it was mind-warping.
Summer is the best here for sure, but there are good days to be had year round if you keep you eye on it.
The last few days looked good at super-low tide with the outside-crumble. |

I would really like to learn how to prone surf foil. Do you just get equipment and go for it, or are there some schools on the coast.
Also, I'm wondering if any of my foils will work for surfing: Naish KS1, SS I-76. |

The SS I-76 is a great foil to learn on.
I used that my first season paired with the SS Skywalker board.
I think Tiny E had one of those boards in the classifieds for a good price.
I don't think anyone is teaching, but there are some decent videos on YouTube now.
I'm happy to give you a download on the do/don't to get you stared; send me a PM. |
