I don't think kites falling out of the sky will be an issue. Winds at sea are pretty steady, and the autopilot can be programmed to back up to keep the kite flying and retract the kite if the line tension drops to a pre-determined value. A 20% drop in fuel cost would be HUGE on an ocean crossing. So still mostly fossil fuels, but another step in the right direction. |
