WSDOT and the US Forest Service are studying congestion along recreational access sites on Highway 14 that are viewed as prolematic. They are considering measures that may impact access to those sites. For kiteboarders, windsurfers and any river user, the sites most implicated are probably from Swell City to the Hatchery, and the Klickitat Spit (a/k/a the Lyle Spit).

Below is the link to the survey and a Zoom invite to open houses being hosted both tomorrow, Thursday, October 14, and the following Wednesday, October 20.

I encourage you to complete the survey and to attend the open houses to politely and appropriately advocate for safe and enhanced access to both these sites and the other sites that you may frequent. WSDOT in particular had been discussing closing the existing parking lot in Lyle to decrease traffic there. The effect, of course, will be to limit access to the Lyle spit, one of only two big spits where folks can learn in safety.

Copy and paste into your browser. You will see an active link where you can comment, as well as the Zoom invite for the open houses.

Thanks!!

Can anybody provide more insight into this process?

What is on the table?

If sites are identified as "Safety Concerns" does this mean funds are available to improve, or inversely that efforts will be made to eliminate the identified site?

I don't know much more than what is posted. I assume they will study it to death and spend the money that could be used to improve things on studies. I think it's important to write to let them know we want/need more access, not more restrictions.

Does anyone know if the GGW2 are currently in loop with WSDOT on these surveys?
