Tue Jun 26, 07 1:32 pm anyone else kitebuming it up in july? |
|
|
I have 3 weeks off of school and no money, so I built a bed in my ford focus so I can kite bum it up.
http://mb.kiteridersllc.com/viewtopic.php?t=226
just checking to see if anyone else is in my same boat and wants to kite together. I also have a few questions.
are there any places to shower cheaply or for free and are there any oregon laws that make it illegal or whatever for me to sleep in my car? and where is the best place to park overnight? I would also love to meet up with some locals so I'm not an out of towner jackass. and if anyone ever finds themselves in the midwest on buissness, I'd be happy to give you info on our spots, just shoot me an email: palte@wisc.edu
later,

LOL!
man, you chose the smallest car you could find to camp in!
I know there is a shower at the back of the pelican in PC, and as long as you don't stay more than a night or two, you can park in the public parking lot next to it (surfers sleep there every weekend in VW busses).
another option would be to carry a gallon of fresh water with you and rinse off after each session (and refill it when you can). being in the ocean, you won't need to shower ever day if you really don't want to (unless you sweat while you're on land).
camp sites are going to be tough this time of year at the coast, but if you drive just a few miles in, and find a forrest service road, you are allowed to pull over and camp anywhere you want. |

if you come to hood river there are public bathroom and showers in the port marina parking lot. This is right next to the port marina park, just east of the sandbar. |

that bed rig is cool & funny at the same time....killer determination. Don't get a boner while you are sleeping in there. |

I was just reading your other post on your? site. Your kites should cover you all over the Gorge. On some extreme days I have seen 5M waroo's out, but your 16,12,7 bows should be all you need depending on your board.
The current can take your board out to sea if you can't get back to it.
As for launches, there are many more than 5 that was said. Just keep your eyes out and find a spot with wind It's a long river and plenty of places to ride. Plus you can hit the coast |

thanks for all the info! Can't wait. I just snagged a pair of dakine heel straps, so i think loosing my board will not be much of a problem anymore. for some reason, I keep launching it off my feet once a session and end up landing 30-40 ft downwind of it. kiteridersllc.com isn't my site, but I run it for bob cook.
one last question, I'm guessing you guys rock a shortie or 2/3 steamer when on the coast, but do you need it in the gorge during the summer?
thanks,

I wear a 5/4 stitched and glued at the coast all year long. we're in shorties in the gorge right now... be in shorts in no time. |

50 degree-ish water in the coast all summer long. anything less then a 4/3 is asking for trouble. i got the serious shivers doing a long body drag in my 4/3, i use a 5/4 with hood and booties now. be safe and have fun. _________________ If you feel sleepy you need to be driving faster. |

sick capitol shot...
I wanted to ride Mendota so bad when I was home in LG...it was blowing like 25+ one day and I had no car!!!
You can wear a 4/3 at the coast and be fine if it's nice out...Gorge is so close for shorts-only. _________________ Shallow Dive Design, 2nd Wind Sports, Airush, Trident Sports |
