In response to the evacuations of so many fellow Oregonians, the Port is currently opening up parking in Lot #1, the Event Site, the boat ramp parking lot, and the Marina Green parking lot near the DMV, for evacuees affected by the regional wildfires. Local campgrounds are filling up and people need a place to sit tight.
Restrictions have been lifted for overnight camping for evacuees only, and there are no charges for parking at the Event Site. We do not know how many folks will show up or what crowd size to expect, but we are preparing to offer them temporary refuge. The smoke is forecasted to linger until Monday at a minimum.
Genevieve, Port Communications Manager, has created a link on our website with the information: https://portofhoodriver.com/hood-river-waterfront-evacuation-sites/
Also if you haven’t already heard, Hood River County Commissioners has temporarily closed the County Forest, including Post Canyon, until conditions improve and the threat of fire diminishes. HRATS asks that all mountain bikers please respect this closure. |
