Is Rooster Rock a safe/good place for beginners to learn. Both body dragging, and early stages of being on a board? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Or, any suggestions for good beginner spots other than Sauvies.
Thanks,
Daryl |

Just watch you backside when you are setting up your gear, your in VS territory
IMHO RR is not the best place to learn. First of all wind and current will be going in the same direction--so one needs to rig a bit bigger to counter the forces of the current and wind. This can be extra hard for a beginner when it gets gusty. Secondly, 7/8 of the time when the east winds are blowing, it is gusty. Most times when it blows at RR it is windy in the morning and dies early to mid afternoon. However, on the rare occasion, it will be super hot in pdx and the wind blows all day and into the evening. When this happens the winds tend to be a bit more steady and RR rocks.
I guess if you wanted to fly a trainer or smaller kite on the open beach, away from the willow bushes and people it would be good. Body dragging probably would be good as well if you went way up wind and stayed in waist to chest deep water, but the channel is not begginer land. Past the pilon and there really are no downwind outs and the channel comes real close to shore.
If I were u, I'd go to the ocean beach where there is tons of room and no one to get in your way. Call Cleanline in Seaside if you want some coastal lessons and of course there are great schools in HR at the CrowdBAR, I mean Sandbar.
Hope this helps. |

If you dont mind driving - Flora's Lake by Bandon is a awesome spot for learning. Try to meet up with Will and take lessons from him, he is a great instructor.

If you want to be close to pdx then go to HR and take a lesson with New Wind or any of the schools out there. _________________ Join the CGKA! Membership is only $10! Sign up at http://cgka.net/become-a-member/ |

Daryl probably isn't familiar with the word "VS" but it stands for Viet Schlong. It means that its a nude beach - and don't get your hopes up - no hotties. Just a bunch of fat dudes that will be staring at you with all three eyes |
