Just like Pkh says, I hope people see this sport as dangerous so that it getts the respect it deserves! Some people have the common sense to figure out what goes on with this sport ( to a certain extent), before they just say "it's stupid and dangerous" or jump on a board and fly into a log pile!

With how many people who come here from other places, there will always be someone who doesn't know about the no fly zone. And untill the zone is more "identified" (meaning more than just the buoy that looks like a kite bag) the bitching and stupid posts you and your "windsurfin buddies" do is plenty for some of the TRUE locals around here!

Stop bein such a pussy!!

i agree that the wording of the intial posts were a bit inflammatory.

on the other hand this is a place for airing it out. or is it? . . .

give the guy a small break. who are you to judge anyone?

you do not know what is really in his heart, or his intentions. remarks that are mean spirited say more about you than the one you direct them to.

yeah try to keep the harsh words minimal. Except PMB, Jessie Richman, or Mr. "T" (who plowed into the wood) I can't think of any reason that ya all would be so riled up, it was an awesome weekend.

Ok, so I was a jerk to the guy. But as pkh elluded to, I have somewhat of a right to be a jerk cause by all accounts it has been an epic season and my biggest acheivement this year has been to start hobbeling around in my walking cast.

This site is a double edged sword of sorts. I get so depressed and bored I get online to see what is happening, just so I can kind-of feel like I'm kiteboarding in a strange, voyeuristic and slightly mastabatory way. Then when I see all the pictures and reports of awesome conditions I kind of stare at my ankle and sulk.

So, I'm sorry if I was too harsh on you. It's warm and windy and there are chicks with bikini's outside and your starting a "debate" about the safety of the spit. Who cares if its safe...GET YOUR ASS OUT THERE AND GET SOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ps. JP- you worded my word twice in the same thread. That's a no-no. Laughing

My 10 year old can fly a kite and has not hit a stump yet Laughing Shocked Laughing or come close, why because he's not stupid and respects the kite. Get it, respect the kite, otherwise you are going to the Hospital,

Typically, stupidity isn't painless, but in this sport is sure Fn is! Shocked

He's not the first to get hurt, nor the last. If I'm correct, people have died doing this Evil or Very Mad

damn right people have died doing this sport, and the number one cause for kiteboarding deaths is because the kiter did not give ample room downwind of their current location from land or other solid objects that ended up killing the person(s). Generally (but not always) some freak winds came and picked them up and lofted them out of the water and onto the shore/land where they were smashed into rocks and or other hard objects.

Know the conditions, know where you are relative to land (and anything else that could hurt you) and know what is downwind of you. These are some of the very first things i learned in my first lesson. Another reason lessons are SO important. I was told to give at least 100 yards of open water downwind of me at all times when i first started doing this sport. That would give you 3-4 tea bags before you hit the solid objects / ground downwind of you, which should be plenty of time to release.

Be it freak wind or tumbling through the water disoriented, you need to be able to release your safety in a split second to avoid possibly dangerous situations. Practice and make sure you always know your safety & quick release mechanisms Exclamation

pdxmb-great analogy re: the forum being a sort-of-like PORN site for kiters, never thought of it that way but its true, if i cant kite (working) i can always get a hit here. . .and my wife doesnt mind this site as much as some others. . . Embarassed

regarding stupidity as the cause of accidents/injury, i guess i have to disagree.

i remember a man named 'fo on another forum who used to go on about how if you kite long enough, you WILL find yourself in a pain-position later or sooner, no matter how careful you are. his point i think was that stuff happens no matter what, and this idea that preparedness and carefulness somehow prevent a mishap is actually a part of the mindset that adds to our liability.

sorry to go on and on here, but i gues what i am tryng to say is we should all lead with kindness and respect toward our brothers, even when they do and say things we may not understand. accidents happen to the most thoughtful, and often the kooks get a pass.

for the newb putting himself and others at risk on the beach, we need to start with respect before we try and instruct. to ridicule just adds to the insanity. . . imho

thanks for listening.
