Tue May 08, 07 9:26 am question about log clearing issue on sandbar from CGKA mins. |
|
|
From CGKA 5/6/07 meeting minutes:
1) sandbar cleanup may 19th. The water will be lowered 5 days in advance for the wood debris to dry.
Is this a special request the Dam folks are fulfilling for CGKA?
If so, can we request really HIGH water for 2-3 days to see what trees we can sluff off first? Or does that conflict with their energy production plan moreso than lowering the water...?
My apologies for not being able to attend the meeting. Thanks for posting minutes so fast. Great work on everything.

The Corps of Engineers are lowering the river at the request of the Port of Hood River, who has made the request on behalf of CGKA in the name of safety. Some of the Port directors and I discussed it yesterday, they know how dangerous it is out there right now and are very interested in helping us to have a productive clean up day! |

Thanks Jim.
Was the option of raising it brought up at all? |

Yes in the past. I think there is a limit in how much they want to raise the river - and to drop it fast to get the wood to move means they have to spill - ie less power generation. |

Bring on the log skidders!
This is timber country!
Seriously. The port should
consider bringing in some
heavy machinery for the
debri removal project.
In legal terms I believe the
log 'playground' could be
considered an attractive nuisance |
