Quote: | CGKA meeting summary
1) sandbar cleanup may 19th. The water will be lowered 5 days in advance for the wood
debris to dry. We have permission to use chainsaws and 4wd vehicles. We need to designate
one area to pile debris that will be burned. There was talk about leaving the two major wood
piles already out there to prevent erosion of the sandbar, and simply trying to make them
safer wood piles, by removing all the protruding branches and burms that could be hazardous.
This would also provide a means for building a natural slider.
1a) What we need from the community is for everybody who can show up, to show up and
bring chain saws, 4wd vehicles, winching equipment (chains & come-alongs) and as many
people as you can bring down to the sandbar to help cleanup. Cleanup begins 1pm on
Saturday May 19th.
2) Event site usage and pumping on the grass was discussed and it was determined the
CGKA's stance would be to pursue the issue of being able to pump up on the grass. This
would be limited to the downwind 10% (40 - 60ft) of the event site. If this happens there is
going to be other issues to go along with it. Who will self police? how will we ensure that there
are no lines attached to any kites on the grass? There will be signs posted clearly stating the
rules, but more effort will be required to make it work, if we are given this privilege.
3) the kitemare incident of the person getting ragdolled on the waroo was discussed. We felt
that people should take a stance and never launch a kite for someone when it is directly
downwind and result in a hot launch. As well as the fact that people need to be more aware of
all the debris downwind of their launching spot. Had either of these small precautions been
taken the person would probably not have gotten rag dolled or at least not over a bunch of
logs and debris that could have done serious damage. Experienced kiters should make an
effort to help people who are not in the know of safe procedures.
4) Garret, Tonia & Greg spoke about their kiteboarding for cancer fund raising event on
August 25th as a way for kiteboarding to raise money and benefit the community. It is also
way for kiteboarding to give back to the community and has the CGKA's full support. For more
info PM Garret or tekko as i dont like posting email addresses on a forum that can be scoured
by bots.
5) Summer race series. Cory wants to put on a race series happening every friday, except
first friday, for two months (6 total days of racing).
6) BOD directors nominations and requirements were talked about, it was decided that
nominations and elections should be delayed until our online voting application is up and
running (in about 2 weeks). We have a rough list of criteria for people to be on the BOD but
we are still working this out. We also came to an agreement there should be 4 core members
(president, treasurer, secretary, communications director) and then an additional 7 - 9 BOD
seats. This is still in the works and needs to be finalized. and it will be discussed in more
depth at the next meeting. Lastly, Phil motioned and jim seconded the motion that i (adam)
be appointed to comunications position and a unanimous vote finalizes the motion. We also
agreed to reconvene in 1 months time.
7) tentative agenda for next meeting
BOD elections
self policing
if anyone has anything else they would like to see talked about at the next meeting please send email to admin[at]cgka.net
A couple other notes, here is a link to the port website where port commission and waterfront
rec commission meeting times and locations are posted:

I forgot to mention that for the cleanup we also need people to bring ropes and plastic jugs that we can turn into hazard buoys and mark various objects that we wont be able to move. |
