surfboard inserts - pad and insert integration

I thought there was a manufacturer of a pad that had inserts integrated into it (NSI - HEIN?). Im wonding if anybody can tell me who is the maker and if anybody has any good or bad things to say about the product.

Is this better than retrofitting a board with regular inserts?

We have the NSI Insert Deck pad at out shop if you want to come by and check it out.
We've sold a couple, but have yet to hear any direct feedback.

I used the NSI stick on inserts, and one has already come loose (about 4 light wind uses).

I am in need of some NSI/Hein stick-on's with inserts also...

I have heard they are great. I think Gorge Performance had them and now they are on order.......?

Also, I am curious where to stick them. I was told I should ride my board strapless to see where the sweet-spot is first, but that means I need to wax it all over again, after I just took it all off. any other options..?

I'm not sure what folks are using the 2 hole surface mount
inserts for but obviously they may not be sufficient for higher
loads. I'd be curious to hear which position popped loose.
They were develope primarily for surfboards where you
run your straps looser. Using them on twintips might be a
stretch.

A smooth (not sanded) clean, warm, dry surface is going
to give you the best bond. But that doesn't mean that you
can't work them loose overtime. They are designed to go
under a pad which will keep water from getting in around
the edges. You could seal the around the edges with
a bead of silicone if your not covering them with a pad.

Here is the solution:
I just made a whole bunch of 4 hole surface mounts that
have roughly twice as much bonding area as the 2 hole
version. NSI is not offering those yet but I'm sure they will.
These will work better in high load applications and give
you two strap positions as well.

The Surf-N-Skim pads have muich bigger plate with VHB
that goes under your foot. It's got the most bonding
area and is well protected by the surrounding pad.

NSI or Walmart can set you up with some new VHB
tape so you can reapply an insert that comes loose.

(yes, Walmart has it but it may not be as good as
what NSI is using. It's heavy duty exterior mouting
tape with RED backing)

You may want to get the larger ones if you know
you did a good job with surface prep and installation
but they still came off.

Bear with me while I develop this into a product line
that will have a solution for most applications.

I have been using the NSI pads for awhile now on a few different boards. Considering the abuse they have taken, and stayed firmly in place (which shocked me at first) they get a big thumbs up. Much easier than the router/plug/glassing that used to have to happen. It also opens up the possibility of a billion different options for kite specific boards.

Fuck the tape, just use Hein's inserts with EPOXY! Then it'll probably rip the top deck of your board off before anything else. Wink
