So, earlier in the day I knocked myself silly trying to do a raley on my wakeboard. I never quite had enough power in the kite to do them and caught the toe side edge, slammed into the water and actually hit bottom face first... I was seeing double for about a minute and have a black eye now. All the pictures of raleys you see me doing are way underpowered and suck. Sad

Here are some pictures:

Forrest.

Looking good. Just a quick tip.

With a raley, more so than any other wake trick, the secret to laying it out is in the kite position.

45 degrees is good, 30 is even better. The more horizontal you lines are (low kite) when you pop off the water, the more horizontal your body weight will be and the better chance your feet/board (swing weight) have of getting over your head.

Any time the kite is high enough that the lines go up, rather than out, you are fighting the physics of it all to get fully laid out.

For the extreme raley pop, try the kite just under 45deg and pulling slightly on your front hand, pulling the kite down towards the water just as you pop into the move. oh yeah.. and hold on, because THAT will get you laid out.

Looking good guys! Jealous you were getting it in Lyle while I was in White Salmon, so close, but working all day.

Yea, sweet pics! How was the wind there? Nice to have the sandbar too!

P.S. - Why is Man wearing his drysuit? It can't be that cold there. Wink

Thanks for the advice! I could use it. My problem in most of the pictures was that I was trying them during a lull in the wind and I just wasn't able to get up to speed. I usually don't even think about the kite when I do them, but I'm going to try all your advice next time... Look out!

I'm in some pain today, I think we rode non-stop for four and a half hours. Doctor says I need a backiodomy!!

Man rides a dry suit for flexibility and I think he hates wetsuits.

The wind was fairly steady, but yesterday it was more WNW than usual. I was on a 2006 9m Waroo, probably should have been on a 12m.

Lyle rocks but there are a ton of tree stumps we need to mark. Everyone start saving up those liquid laundry soap bottles.

Beautiful Day at Lyle on a 9m ION! This weekend is looking nice and warm. Pray for enough pressure gradient to push some air through the gorge!

Yea I know he likes to wear it out in the ocean... saw him do that last year too! I'm still waiting for mine (should be in tomorrow), then I'm sure I'll never go back to a wetsuit. Just gotta get some layering shit!

it's funny... i'm headed the other direction. I wore a drysuit for years, finally got a nice thick wetsuit, and I don't want to get back in that drysuit.

Interesting... what's your main complaints about drysuits?

mostly that all my drysuits have been back zippers, leaving me totally reliant on someone else to get me in and out of them...especially in those emergency calls from mother nature...

also, i've popped a few bag suits, and you're pretty F'd if you do. It won't sink you or anything, but it's cold...really cold...

don't be fooled by the name drysuit, one hard hit, and you have water coming into the neck, arms or legs...then you're wet...

with the thick wetsuit, I stay almost totally dry every time. When I do get some water in, it warms up pretty fast. Also, I can get into and out of it easily by myself.
The drawback to the wetsuit is that you do get a little wet every time, and you have to strip down to get in and out of it...
