On my Ride Engine slider bar, I splice the line through itself, then through the newly created loop. It's a kinda spliced square knot. Doesn't slip as much as a figure 8 or standard square knot, and you can get it pretty close to the bar. I usually use a #2 philips screwdriver to make the hole.
I get about the same life out of the "Nak style" spliced line on my Dynabar, which means I go through a few lines a year on each.
Hood River Hobbies has plastic super glue with a brush, $7 for 1/2 oz. I also have a bottle of their "foam safe" super glue for beach side board repairs.

I tried this out yesterday and was quite happy with it. Clove-hitch on the ring which is easy to tighten and doesn’t have a ton of slip. Then the overhand to secure it. Folds nicely back into the bar sheath and I didn’t notice any slippage after using.

Did you use the eye in the end of the splice in which you fold the spectra over & penetrate the splice to capture a little tiny shackle (ala dynabar) and use the hardware as a stopper, so you only have to tie one stopper knot? |
Yo Hoe-Toe,
Just re-read your message and I realized I had misread your original post.
I made a whole bunch of the the Center Line depower ropes using NAK's method. I did this years ago and made about about a dozen all at once. I haven't burned threw my stash yet.
That will teach me to skim posts.... |
Hey bigjohn—no worries.
I’ll be the guinea pig. If I never post again, you’ll know it didn’t work out well. 😀
Nak’s awesome DIY tutorial: http://www.nwkite.com/forums/t-31373.html&highlight= |
I got to test it, finally...
It worked great. Minimal stretch, plus it slid much more smoothly thru my dynabar hook’s sheave than the old piece of 1/4” or 5/16” hollow braid I had been using. No visible wear... I used 1/8” Amsteel blue, and I terminated the end opposite the shackle using an oysterman’s knot (thanks G-man).
I think this is the way to go for a DIY Dynabar replacement slider line.
Happy rigging!
