it's time i replace my wetsuit for oregon surf.
i'm been using a ripcurl fbomb 5/4.
it's old.
i'm old.
i know there's got to be new tech out there.
anybody have any insight into better?
I'm researching online too, but there's nothing like 1st hand experience.
mostly surf, but i may kite again out there sometime too.
i'm from texas originally, so usually colder than ducks and beavers.
thanks!

I love Excel's infinity drylock series. The inside fleece lining is awesome - and a greater section on the inside is covered in it than most other brands.

With that being said - pataguccis 4/3s are just as warm as a 5/4 - but cost like three times as much.

I ordered a XL Patagonia from clean line, Very nice suit. But they run small. I am 6 foot and 200lbs. I had to send it back. They did not at that time have a xxl.
I just ordered a ride engine xl. Will find out how it fits tomorrow.

I swear by Hotline, great surf suit, true sizing and fits all sizes. I get those at Cleanliness. My other suits are Promotion.

Try on the Oneil Pyrotech with Technobutter at Cleanline before you buy. Thumb's Up

The Ride Engine 5/4 Apoc has been keeping me warm and toasty in 40 degree water this spring. I am impressed with the flexibility

OíNeill pyrotech fershur, especially if youíre mostly surfing. Super stretchy and comfortable. I have a 4/3 and have been warm in everything.

I like RipCurl (fits by body shape), but the last suit I ordered was a ProLimit. Sizing is similar to RipCurl (If unsure between sizes, go with the smaller size).
Tried a Patagonia, sizing seemed similar to Oneil.
For wetsuits, I would highly recommend that you try it on before purchasing.

When Gman talks - we should listen - he spends more time under water than the rest of us combined!

I dunno about my cumulative time underwater, but my personal best depth so far has been ~2800 m... but I wasnít wearing a wetsuit then.

I like Rip Curlís 5.5/4/3 E-bomb fullsuit (the one without the fuzzy piss-sponge lining), for both surfing and kiting in the ocean. I dunno about the gorge.

By all means, as mentioned above, you absolutely MUST try on a wetsuit before you buy. Consider it a rite of passage to try on half a dozen of them (some of them twice), sweating & cursing, in the dressing room at your local surf shop. Do not expect to order a wetsuit online and have it fit. Do not expect the current yearís suit to fit the same as the previous yearís. Awhile back Rip Curl resized their entire line, and I went from wearing a MT to a LT even though my own dimensions hadnít changed.

(Edit:after posting, I checked Rip Curlís website and oopsie, it looks like my favorite suit, the E-bomb, has been discontinued... )

Promotion is a locally owned organic, gluten free IPA, manufactorerer of the best damn wetsuits in Oregon.
What's cool is if you buy a PROMotion wetsuit and something is not right, they will make it right.
Plus, their suits and other fashion accessories will bedazzle you as you glide across the water.

+1 for Patagonia - their stuff is pretty great and they do care more than the average company about the manufacturing process, sourcing of the materials and fair pay in the supply chain and they do their best to minimize the environmental impact
