sounds like you will be in some pretty windy places so something on the smaller side would be good. in general a wide 120 to a narrow 140 would work. if your going used make sure to check very carefully for cracks. reparied dings and scratches are alright but spidery looking cracks mean the board is about to break. there arent really any makes to watch out for. the classifieds on here or ikitesurf are good spots to check.
if your looking at new boards i really like the sx137 http://www.sskiteboarding.com/products.cfm?id=10 plus you wont grow out of it. overall alot of it is personal prefrence try stuff out if you can

What do you think about the nobile 555 125 or the JL model 3 125cm or the best float 127. Those are the boards that I am thinking about. I like the slingshot but it seems to be a bit long for my skinny but.
Any input would be great thanks for the help guys and gals..

I think the board should reflect what and how you want to ride..if you have any thought about that yet.

As your very first board I'd recommend you to get something big, floaty, VERY used and super cheap..one of those dinged up starboards or something like that.... There should be quite a lot on the market.
This will shorten the time you spend in the water going downwind...a big board (I am talking about boards that are NO fun at all to ride after you can upwind...

Then depending on what you want to do with it....check out the Thorn for freestyle, and SOL for freeride. Both boards are kick ass. I changed my Underground for a thorn and have not looked back.

The sol has more of a loose feel to it and is better in chop, but not as good for free style...in my opinion...though there are plenty of good riders here using it...

The Thorn has mad pop a really precise feel to it. By far my favorite freestyleboard....

There is a very nice overview on the Naish site for sizes for weight...

Hey, I have not tried the North.
If you refer to it as your first board, I'd say go bigger...but just if you can get it for super cheap. This is only to learn how to go upwind. Than after that you can start getting on with more advanced riding. Maybe something like 150 or so.

Hmm, but you are kid of light, so I guess you might be fine on a board like that. It is hard for me to imagine Smile (I am at the opposite end of the spectrum in terms of weight)..so maybe your weight should be good...

There should be some real cheap litewaves...if you're thinking of a twintip. If you are thinking of a directional..like a wave board, then you go for the good stuff right away...remember that you then will have to learn how to jibe at some point Smile

I have a Naish Fish that I like for light wind, it might be a little bouncy for your weight, but something like the 5'10 would probably be a very good board...but it is a directional...or even a smaller one.

I have tried some of the litewave boards, the undergrounds and some other customs...and some older boards of different brands.

I realize I have probably confused you more than anything right now

A.

Get a slingshot misfit 127, you wont break it, like you would a thorn, and you will be able to ride it in all wind conditions. If you havent learned to ride the board yet tho, just find something cheap that is long and wide. You want to get used to riding the board first, then once you have it figured out then you will want to step down to a smaller size.

MISFTIT 127, get it.

have to agree here, that board is sick, i ride a misfit 127 and i weigh upwards of 160 lbs, if you only weigh in a 120 that will be plenty of board for you without being too much board either.

but definately buy a super cheap board with lots of surface area to learn on. Make, model, doesn't really matter, just get something cheap. You can learn on just about anything and the more surface area the easier it will be to get up and planing from the get go. Hell i learned on a like a 144 wakeboard with converted bindings to foot straps.

Chances are good that you might loose a board if you dont know how to bodydrag upwind, and it aint so bad losing a board that cost you less than a 100 bux. Whereas if you bought a new misfit or SX and lost it, you'd be hella sad.

Hey now, Henry broke two Misfits in one weekend... Must have been those kiteloops. Wink

That's not to say they aren't first class boards! Mighty fine ones if you ask me... but watch the flamebait Ian.

it is just with all the local kiteboard companies and distributors (slingshot, north via northsports, inc, naish via pacific board sports, llc, etc) you tend to see a lot more of those brands around because people can get hooked up with cheaper than retail prices.

I have total respect for mark shinn and his brand, but i'm guessing that since he is english (i think?) or whatever, then he is probably based out of england (just a guess here folks) or wherever he is from, and that is why we dont see too many nobile boards around, just like we dont see many brunotti boards (except kataku and len10), they're expensive and not what is locally available.
