You all may have seen this, but the Columbia River is now closed at Home Valley. Regulations have change regarding the entire Gorge with regards to fire aircraft. The short version: if you see aircraft coming in for reloading water, get out of the way please so they can save our community.

Here's the synopsis:

The USCG has established a temporary safety zone on the Columbia River from river mile 126 (Corbet, OR) to river mile 185 (just below the Dalles). All vessels are prohibited from operating within 500 yards of all aircraft engage in fire fighting operations while in this zone.
Additionally, all vessels are prohibited from entering a subsection of this zone, from river mile 154 (Anderson Point Oregon) to River mile 158 (Collins Point Washington), without express permission from the Captain of the Port.

These notices should be taken with the highest level of concern.

These planes and helicopters are our main line of protection in regards to these fires and should in no way be impeded in their flight plans.

The same goes with Quad Copters or Drones !!!!
Yes, you can capture some cool shots, but you can also cause the cancellation of all flight patterns by aerial water drop teams.

We were given clearance to teach kiting on the sandbar and there are other riders out at the Event Site now. I wouldn't be surprised if Stevenson was a no-fly zone, but I don't know what other usual kiting areas would be effected.

Coast Guard ends Columbia River safety zone

PORTLAND, Ore. — The Coast Guard will suspend the Columbia River safety zone at 6 p.m., Sunday, opening the river to all vessel traffic.
While the safety zone will no longer be in effect, the Coast Guard will continue to work with the Eagle Creek Fire Incident Command to ensure the safety of river users and support the response as needed.
Any mariners with concerns about safely navigating the reopened area are encouraged to contact the Coast Guard on marine VHF radio channel 16 or to call Coast Guard waterways management personnel at 503-572-3524.
The safety zone was put into place in response to impacts of the Eagle Creek Fire in Central Oregon. The Coast Guard Captain of the Port for the Columbia River had established the safety zone to best support incident response operations and to ensure the safety of the boating community.
The Columbia River is an essential commercial waterway for the Pacific Northwest and is the principle route for vessel traffic to move annual $29 Billion in cargo up and down the multi-state waterway.
