I've never kited from Lot D before but looks like the east winds will make it to the coast. Also have incoming tide all afternoon. Is that considered to be good conditions?

Any info appreciated...otherwise might just try PDX airport!

Optimal conditions for Lot D are to hit it at slack tide and or when the lagoon starts ebbing (going out/down). Opposing forces increases one's apparent wind speed; and forces flowing together in the same direction decreases one's speed/power. I'm saying this and or telling you this as Lot D can and often does peter out in the afternoons with East winds. That said, you never know till you go. From my experiences, every last ounce of power was always sought after in/during afternoon sessions. Lot D seems to be more of a morning spot; kind of like Rooster is. That is not to say that afternoon winds don't occur, they do, just like Rooster.

My three cents.

Have fun wherever you go.

Cool, thanks!

If anyone else might be heading there, please post so I know if I'll have company!

NOAA is calling for strong E winds into the evening. High tide is late afternoon but it's not a very high tide, but you can always kite in the channel if the lagoon isn't full enough.

Wintery mix coming in...chilly...

Averaging 40 on the bridge and the forecast looks good but slightly lower tomorrow. Cold water and wind! The clatsop meter obviously is crap except for straight Westwinds.

Yeah, might push the limits of my wetsuit but I'm jonesing to ride. No trips to tropical paradise for this guy, unfortunately. I'll have to make the call tomorrow if I feel up to braving the cold.

And looks like you confirmed that the Astoria bridge is the correct sensor to watch, thanks.

Looks like I was getting a little ambitious. Checked the water temp at Astoria and it's a *bracing* 39 degrees. With no dry suit I believe it's pushing the limits of safety. Even with the predicted high of 40 degrees that would put me well below the "100 degree rule". So, gonna have to wait for some warmer weather Sad Drunk

Last Sunday's downwinder was almost Balmy. No gloves required. Definitely over the 100 rule. Looks like this weekend will bring strong South winds but don't go alone! I like Shipwreck to Lot C because of their beaches and lots A&B are easy bailouts.

That sounds really awesome. I'm still really new to ocean/wave riding though so I'm not sure I can handle winter swells. I will definitely consider it though if it's not huge and I can hook up with some other people.

another option is damon point. its up by ocean shores, wa. I went up there yesterday after kiting withdrawals being off the water the past month. I'd say the water is much warmer there than the ponds. probably upper 40s. its a bit of a haul from pdx but worth it. I rode my 3.5m with a foil yesterday.
