What is the definition of a Downloop vs kiteloop?
OK, everyone, need some help on definition
I’ve checked YouTube and other sources and can’t find anything about the difference.
This summer I started successfully downlooping during the jumping process
Let’s say I’m on a starboard tack, right arm is the leading front arm. I jump and have the choice to loop the kite clockwise or counter clockwise. Counter clockwise starts the loop, pulling counter to my movement, then ends up pulling in my forward direction. |

Here's what I learned..... seems everyone has their own understanding and labels.
There's 2 types of kiteloops - downloop and backloop.
In your example - if you loop counter-clockwise (pull with your back hand) that's a backloop (aka megaloop).
If you pull with your forward hand - that's a downloop.
Google 'kiteboard downloop' and 'kiteboard backloop' - lots of good video explanations. |

Yea, everyone has different definitions
I was taught to jump you pull with your back hand and if you just keep pulling that direction that is a loop or back loop as that is the direction the kite is going. Back from your original direction of travel. If after you jump you switch and pull with your front hand that is a front loop. If you only have the kite go part way and reverse direction when you land that is a downloop, so a half a front loop is a downloop. Just how I was taught to label them.
Also, you can downloop without even jumping just to change direction.
So,
Loop and back loop are the same thing
Downloop is half a front loop. |

Good to hear that there is no firm, consistent naming, I thought my confusion was me ! Someone within the kite community should post a YouTube and text document so that these two terms are set in stone, clarification. Thanks for the help |

Downloop is half a front loop. |
That description makes a lot of sense. The names are definitely confusing though. I've heard back roll also referred to as back loop (same with front roll/front loop). Of course you can also do a backroll with a back kite loop! Also, I always thought of a "mega loop" as a boosted jump with a large radius kiteloop while jumping such that the kiter is momentarily higher than the kite (kiter gets really high and kite loop is so big it drops really low). |

Yea, confusing there as well. Seems that:
spins are when the board stays below your head
rolls are when the board goes over your head
loops are with the kite
But at this point it all starts to over my head!?!? |
