I don't think I've ever seen a wind graph with an AVERAGE of 60MPH at Rooster - that's just nuts.
Rooster cam pics from today are enough to make you cold just looking at them.

For all of the events, races and ext that we have in the Gorge, we need to start a new one. This being a COLD as hell balls out session at RR when its 30f and 50 MPH
I think it would be worth it for just one run out and back.
Any suggestions for the name of this event?

Trying to challenge east winds always feels good, even if the heat in the car could never warm you up afterwards.

Bonneville dam reports water temp is just under 34 degrees.
Warmer up by the Dalles: 35 degrees.

Ok, you plan it, organize it, sponsor it, and make sure you actually go first. Oh, please don't forget to get a tv company to cover it too.
Many names to call it. The Seinfeld episode with the phase of "shrinkage" first comes to mind, but perhaps Vanilla Ice's "Ice, Ice, Baby" would work better as shrinkage is
gender specific.
I'll be watching it for a spell when I'm taking a break from skiing in the ski lodge bar, warming up and having a hot tottie.

I checked out Powell butte yesterday for snow kite potential. Not really enough snow, but more surprising was that the East winds were not making it to the top of the butte.

Aside from no wind, how does the terrain look for snowkiting with east wind?

Pretty fun, not epic, and there would be some hazards even with a solid 2 feet, but not totally flat either. This pic is only capturing part of it...

NICE! Not sure if Powell Butte is PDX or Gresham, but if PDX and you go snowkiting, you'll probably have to file and pay for a weed cutting/tree cutting permit as you would most likely mash down and or cut down some of that undergrowth.
At least you got out there and got some fresh air into the lungs and scouted out some place to snowkite.
