My kids and myself are looking for a good place to learn snowkiting. .. They're getting a kite for Christmas today... I hike and climb all the time but cant seem to quite spark their interest in accompanying so far... I'm hoping that changes today ... my youngest has a small 3m kite already my older kids are getting there 7m today... I'm in Longview and have seen posts of the Plains of Abraham. .. I would totally snowshoe in for kiting that but worry I'll lose the kids interest on the long trek... are there any other suggestions for another possible good place to snowkite without the necessity of a sled? ? ? ? ?

It would be about a ten mile walk one way to get to the Plains of Abraham, plus close to two thousand feet of elevation gain.

The Volcanoes are long approaches (think snowmobile) and mostly illegal due to National forest or wilderness designations.
Most people in Oregon go to Utah or Idaho to snowkite.
Exception - if we get another snow event in the gorge, try the Hood River sandbar.

I've hiked there before from Windy Ridge but not the marble mt sno park.. Mt St Helens has been a favorite playground of mine for years... I thought about pitching my winter tent at the tree line and checking out the smaller closer area that isn't too far past the timberline that someone mentioned in another post... but if there was another place that wouldn't be so daunting to my kids to get to I might have a better chance at them enjoying the experience... I have seen several sno parks closer to Mt Adams but not sure if they would be good for kiting... I also saw Wakepish mentioned in another post but again .. not sure if it would be a good kiting place... so any extra advice would be very appreciated ...Thank-you

You might consider waterville, wa. It might be just the ticket considering the cool temps and snow fall we've had this season.

Lake Keechelus at Snoqualamie Pass I-90 near Seattle can be an easy day trip. Just off the highway near the Hyak Ski area. Short hike to launch, flat frozen lake. Works best during easterlies.

Keek:

Depending on the snow pack, and maybe budgets... The road to the launch could either be open to your car all the way, or you've got a 20 minute snowshoe/XC ski hike from the Hyak parking lot.
