Most people kite at Lot B. There's many trails straight out and over the dunes.
You can do a downwinder from Lot B to the Shipwreck.
Nobody parks and launches at Lot C - surfers park there because the wave at the Jetty can be good for paddle surfing.
If you don't want to kite in open ocean - go to Lot D for access to the bay.

Is there a reason why no one goes to lot C ? Rip along the jetty / funky wind ?

Just wondering, as the last time out there the waves just south of the jetty looked pretty good ...

We used to start DW's at C and sometimes point sail there, but I think the main reason is that the trail is long and riddled with goat head thorns so it was a biatch in bare feet. You don't lose too much by starting at lot B.

Ah - the goat heads ... They do suck

Cost:Benefit may be worth it tho ? Seems like some of the better sand bars form in-between lot C and B

Lot C is a longer walk to get your gear down to the beach - 500yds from the parking lot, 350yds or 300yds from the road. The walk from lot B is only about 200yds from the parking lot to the beach.

At the jetty, you will find a pretty bad wind shadow south of the jetty from the jetty formed land mass on the river side. This land mass was created by the jetty and continues to grow. While the bay has nice waves, often nicer than anywhere else on the whole beach down to Seaside, it is hard to handle the wind there. And I would never launch there because of that junk wind.

But the reason that I launch at B is because of the tendency of most kiters NOT interested in downwinders to launch downwind, then ride up wind. This puts you just kiteloops away from getting back to your launch if the wind drops. If you launch upwind, then go downwind and the wind drops, you will have to walk.

At least you got a nickname Dr. Flippy. That's huge coastal street cred.

Used to rig at C all the time like Slither said. There is also the scramble down the riprap which has been known to ding a board or two. If anyone sees my pump I used to leave there, leave it there Laughing

Best wave setup for kiting is at B, that is why everyone kites from there.

Gman! - I'm glad you have evidence of the sea lion infestation.
Nobody believes me when I tell them how many are up there.
I've never seen as many as you captured in your pic - but I've been surrounded by a few dozen just below the jetty - I'm wondering if it's a breeding ground?
I typically see 10 females to each male.

no wind day - so put on my 7 mil suit, grabbed a mask, fins, pole spear and gopro - not much swell so jumped in right by the observation deck - way too shallow and murky pea soup to see anything - just as i threw in the towel and changed out my wetsuit these few hundred guys rolled up...

It's "Fumbles"........it's was always "Fumbles".

And for the sea lions.....too bad there isn't some sort of swimmy large predator in the ocean that hunts them down. Hmmmmm would not want to be in that things way while I am wearing what amounts to practically a baby seal costume.
