This video of Timmy Reyes is shot almost entirely in Oregon. Opening scene is Scotts Reef or 'the yeti' a reef outside of Boiler Bay--- 3:51 is Depoe Bay's boiler bay. Grew up trying to kill myself surfing there in the 80s and 90s and will never forget the long waits for the tide to shift during whipping south winds. Pacific city and nelscott are also obvious.
Fun if you know these spots.

Help me understand the fight club rules:

Is it OK to name-drop this spot just because people don't kite here? I'm pretty certain some of the central coast locals who surf here might disagree.

When I dropped the name of a certain well-known coastal kiting spot awhile ago, encouraging kooks to go there rather than to my home break, my post got censored...

So what's the deal--do we owe respect to the local kiters, but not to the local surfers? Is that how this works?

Question

These spots are all widely known.
I remember watching an old local surfer throw a deer carcass into boiler bay so they could watch to see if 'Herman' showed up--resident white.
And the left is wexlers reef named after the first guy who surfed it.
But the new schoolers have even changed all the names.
Scotts reef is now 'the yeti'?
Cold water surf marketing is already well underway so these aren't secret anymore.
It's a good wave but advanced for sure. And ultra finicky. I think the locals have a tight wrap on just where to line up. Drop in is no wider than a small toyota truck bed in width.
The rest of the spots have been surfed since I lived there in '90 and was shown them by the locals.
You truly have to live there to score regularly. And most people can't manage living in the Oregon sponge too long.
I think kiting localism is necessary to keep things safe.
People need to respect a spot and ask the locals where to go---and not....because no one wants to lose a spot to ride.
