I'm trying to decide if should bring my 14m Rally (2012) with me to Los Barriles in mid-January. I've got an 8, 10, 12, 14 quiver and I'm a total noob on water. The board I'm bringing is a Kitelement split 136 X 39ish. It's soft and noobish, but I like it. I weigh about 175 lbs and have pretty good kite skills. The 12 is a Wave SST.

Anyone have advice for what kites to pack for my first trip down to Baja?

That time of year there, pack them all. Some days it is 7M, some days it is 15M, some days you hang off the barstool.

There many days in LB where the wind is light and powered mainly by thermals, so
definitely bring the 14M. If you had to leave one kite at home you could probably leave the 12M and get by with line extensions for your 10M when your 14M is too much. You will want your 8M for El Norte days - you will be bummed to sit on the sidelines when the wind is strong and the swell is big! Of course, bring them all if you can.

I went to LV and LB first time last year. Had 8-10-12 and brought a surf and twin. I was on the 10 a third of the time and the 12 over half. I weigh 170 and started kiting in 2011. I never felt like I needed more kite. I kited 6 of 8 days and those 2 days were flat--no way a 14 m would have mattered. Most of the time I was at LV so maybe the wind is a bit stronger? Kited a day at LB, I think I had two sessions, 12 to start and 10 during higher afternoon wind.

Have fun Proly! I'd be going back but can only do 1 or 2 big trips and am hitting Maui this year

Thanks so much. I'll find a way to bring them all. Wish I could pack the directional but that just gets ridiculous at that point. Gonna see about a local rental.
