I originally acquired my sled to specifically access snowkite terrain. it's been challenging to do this the past year due to higher snow elevations. yeah I know if I committed to going farther east like to idaho I could be rewarded, but for me MSH is an hour away. I love the idea of timber sleds on many levels. I doubt I will ever be a true sledneck, but want to continue to pursue snowkite terrain.
can't wait to see john's new setup. I'm sure it will work great
I love the idea of having a hitchmount moto bike rack instead of pulling a trailer. be a lot easier to drive in the snow when going to the snow park _________________ www.jimstringfellow.com |

They look like a blast. Normally I would try to fab something myself but building a track setup is way over my head. I like the bike rack idea especially when driving in snow. It would give you some extra traction out back. I'd like to see it behind the TDI. |

Went out on a solo trip to try out snow bike. Stayed on the main road since I was alone. There's plenty of snow at Marble Mountain Sno park. The plains should be accessible this year.

Beautiful John and I'm impressed you can transport that sweet beast in the back of your pickup. |

Went on a test run hauling some gear. Even tried riding double which wasn't a problem.
Here's my set up. Got 2 kites (17 & 9.5) and a board on the bike. In my back pack I can fit a shovel, pump, bar and harness.
Didn't find any wind but I had a blast looking.
Joe the Snowbiker?
Going up to St Helens Friday wish me luck. |

Got one step closer to kiting St Helens but no real success yet. On the way up to the plains one of the sleds broke so we set up a ridge away from the plains. There seemed to be wind but it was on and off and constantly shifting directions. Each of us only managed to get a short run in before we packed up to figure out how to limp the broke sled back to the sno park.
Before we left we checked out the plains riding double on one of the sleds as far as possible. We dropped off the rider and explored the plains a bit before heading back. Might have had better luck at the plains as it seemed to have better wind. But there was no way we could have gotten all 3 of us on 2 transports.
Snowbike worked great. Loaded down with 2 kites, board and snowshoes.

went exploring up at MSH today with john. he let me take a spin on the timber sled. that machine rocks! I like it so much I'm gonna sell my sled and get one. might not work for all conditions but then again I want a snow vehicle to get me to the snow fields. this sled is the ticket _________________ www.jimstringfellow.com |

here's my GPS tracks for saturday. we didn't quite make it to the plains due to poor visibility. very close though. the road is about 4 miles from the sno park lot. then its probably another 4 or 5 miles up muddy river. doable on a fat bike. I may take mine up there just to ride it on the tracked out trails. probably too challenging to bring kite gear up on a fat bike though.

timber sled is the future. glad john got one see we could demo it. super fun and very possible to access terrain for snowkiting. I'm sure it has it's disadvantages, but the advantages outweigh them IMO.
