i was thinking about hitting up rooster rock tomorrow (if it aint nuked out again), and am wondering if anyone has been out there and seen if there is enough room to launch?

the river looked pretty high today in HR, but i know that it can be dramatically different out at rooster cause of the dam.

sounds like the ponds on the coast are the place to be these days.... warmer, shallow flat water, better wind. (check recent threads)

Not sure how the wind has been out there the last few days though...

yea i saw the thread about the ponds and the pictures which were sweet, but i dont really want to drive ~3 hours there and back :-\

I'd rather just hit up rooster rock for a quick hour or two sesh and call it a day.

I wanna ride the ponds again this weekend... Just don't wanna put my kite down for some stupid ass reason, especially in the frigid, deep ass water, wearing only my 4.3. I like being able to touch in the cold water!

I'm curious, where are the ponds? Are you referring to Damon Point - that's a fabulous spot.

Tucker, Nate, and I are going to try (hopefully Saturday), wind permitting!

Anybody ever try hitting up "IIwaco" WA north of the ponds right across the river. Just curious.

Kataku2k3:

Is the wind looking more S-SE or more S-SW..? I am confused...

Or does it even matter at the Ponds..?

We were thinking a Southerly-coastal session at Tolovana maybe..if it's S-SW.

Yeah, I actually grew up in the area. Long Beach and Ocean Park, where I learned to kite, is ok in the summertime on N days, but it's almost always windier farther south in Oregon.

When the coast is socked in, sometimes you can hit up Willipa Bay, but the tide is insane and the only time I ever actually rode it was when I was camping (partying) on long island out in the middle, and you need a boat to get there.

As for areas in and around Ilwaco, ie Baker Bay, on an E day the exposure isn't as good as what you get in the ponds because of the Willipa Hills and Fort Columbia Pt. The only way the bay gets decent exposure is on a S day, and then you need to find a decent launch, which without a boat is nearly impossible. Nearly...

Nate Dogg's final verdict on Ilwaco: Not worth the trip from Portland, but for a local kid it's pretty kick ass.

Chanson, ya know, I haven't even really been lookin' into the forecast. Just talking to the boys about what might work. Just talked to Tucker though, and I think we might just hit up Seaside or something, especially if it goes south. Don't know how the ponds work under those conditions anyway... I'll let ya know before we head out (which will probably be ~10ish).
