Well my grand plan of taking the kite buggy down to Alvord isn't looking so grand as the forecast wind keeps dwindling.

I see the weekend looking good on the central to southern coast but I've never experienced in on NE winds. I've always been lucky enough to to catch N and NW winds. Are the winds coming over land from the NE stable enough to kite ?

Can anyone offer some advice on NE riding down there? I usually hangout in Bandon and kite at the usual spots from Florence to Pistol.

Many... Many thanks for your time and info

Dan

NE is a no go for kiting at the usual spots for waveriding. Late in the afternoon the wind will sometimes shift to true north and then it can turn on for good kitesurfing in the surf. Best to pursue offshore winds the old school way of paddling off the beach and hunting down shapely peaks.

I used the iKite app - no real research - figured I'd wait until I got down here.
This is what it's showing me for Saturday and Sunday.

Graphically it's still indicating NE winds for the lat & lon near Floras - however it's showing favorable N winds north at Florence. I may head there - although Sasquatch thinks Manzanita may be the call this weekend.

So many decisions - so little time.

Manzo for a day trip. Sure if I had more time I would love to SW to typically strong winds and better waves.

Clouds kept the winds down yesterday. I think it will blow today.

well three days of fun in the wind before heading back to the slope was worth it. A day of kiting with the buggy at Alvord dry lake bed was fantastic and made me giddy. Hitting the surf and sand at Florence yesterday brought tears to my eyes and having Floras Lake nearly all to myself today (and seeing old friends from Alaska kiting there) brought home that the world is as small as we make it. No need to be locked down by anything other than your passions.

Thanks everyone for an amazing summer!

well.. um ... err... I guess it's time to re-tool for snow-kiting. Whoooohooooo!!!!!
