How many folks come to Maui? I've lived here for a year now and always get excited to see a Slingshot Kite Up.

I'm not sure how many people realize that Maui is a great place to kite. Kanaha is one of the safest places to kite for newbs and Adv. alike.

How many folks on this forum come to Maui?

Just wondering,

Maui is great, but I'm not sure that Kanaha is such a great place for "newbs" the wind on the beach is flaky and the rocks downwind can get dangerous if someone looses control when launching/landing. But otherwise it's a great spot and I had tons of fun there last year.

We always go in the winter and sometimes the spring. We're actually gonna be there for 5 days at the end of June! I hope it blows hard... Can't wait!!

been to Maui a few different times. Got skunked for kiting because of the Kona winds. Scored almost empty H-Bay surf though. Guess it all balances out.

Kanaha is a great place to kite - but not for beginners due to obstacles and fluky wind close to shore. For an advanced kiter - I not sure I would trade the gorge for anywhere during July and August.

Going to Maui in the summer if one lives in WA or OR seems pretty pointless; unless you're with non-kiters.

Summers here of sun and wind are our dividend payment for enduring 8 plus months of doom and soggy gloom (the past few years not so much).

Go to Maui when it's crappy here, like in November and into the winter.

Got wind? If so, why travel?

There is a south swell advisory for all islands. If you add wind its kind of fun.

Pretty fun without wind at the right spots.

Hire a transplanted local? I'm just curious here but is there any interest in having someone helping you to get the best kiting experience while in Maui? Having been here for a year I know the ropes, good places to rent and da kine.

Like uber, but more kite focused..

We spend all summer every summer with my family kiting on Maui. Its pretty good. Although the other day I did run over a shark eating a turtle a few times. That was an excellent time not to fall. I did fail to inform my wife about that.

We have a kite fishing derby at kite beach on July 4. $10 to enter and the winner gets all the cash.

4 different kite beaches within 1/2 mile of each other at Kanaha park. 4 very different crowds.

Old man or "Euro" beach is the most upwind, then Naish beach, then Pro Pool and all the way down wind is Kitebeach / Action Beach and or Teach Beach.

We hang mostly at the teaching beach downwind of pro pool.

Here is a fun edit that my son did at kite beach last summer when he was 13.

Come kite and fish with us ! Laughing

Kid looks good Thumb's Up

this setup brought up an acrobatic 7ft shark off kitebeach jupiter - cant say i will be doing that again - maybe with a quick release...

We use a kite bar leash with a quick release for the fishing line. It goes from the back of your harness to the beginning of the fishing line.

Anyone have a big tiger take a Mahi they had hooked up?

Was supercool to see a couple hundred pound air shark after your bait - but would have been better from boat/kayak/SUP - they dismantle 25lb spinning outfits - your prob going to get yanked really really hard/hurt

off your old house Jupiter - important to secure your catch and get it in quick
