Hey Folks - I am headed to Maui early May and was hoping to get some feedback/recommendations on what size kite(s) to bring. I will be kiting Kanaha and Kihei areas. Will be bringing just a TT board, and hope to bring just 1 kite, but open to bringing 2 if necessary. Appears winds should be 15-25 knots area, but not sure of the volatility of the wind. I have 6, 8, 10, 12 in my quiver, and weigh 150 lbs.
I would assume this question has been covered in previous posts but can't seem to find any solid info. Any feedback appreciated.
Thanks. |

gotta bring 2 kites, come on...
8 and 12 (I'm guessing at 150 you'll be kiting 8 more often)
but don't listen to me, I've only been HI a couple times
i just think you should bring more kites, and more m2 is better, always
have fun |

I'd take all 4, whatever you leave home is what you will want. I'm headed over today (waiting for the shuttle) and taking my 7/9/11. My 13 is staying at home so that I can hang out with my non kiting wife if its just breezy instead of windy. If you must just take 2, 8 and 12 is probably the best combo |

May is a transitional month on Maui - the summer trades have not fully kicked in,,, the wind strength will be variable.
You don't specify is this primarily a kite specific trip or a family trip where you hope to make time for a kite session or 2.
Either way the chances of a single kite size being correct is a crap shoot.
If it's a kite specific trip - take 8, 10, 12.
If it's a family trip, take your 8,10. If it's light wind - enjoy another activity.
Finally - it can nuke in May..... you could end up needing your 6. |

Appreciate all the responses - will likely go with the 8 and 12 to get some kiting in on a fam trip. If the trip was strictly for kiting, I'd bring em all!
Thanks,
Pete |
