If anyone has some time on the Mako Duke I'd like to hear about it. The Cabrinha Secret Weapon is treating me very well but I'm always interested in OR gear.
Maybe Windance will have a Demo Days where we could take it around the blocks?? _________________ "I have often regretted my speech, never my silence" ~Xenocrates

Yes, we have the Duke for demo.
Stop on by to take it out for a spin.

great board! I've only had two light wind sessions but it was cranking upwind easy and ate up chop as most makos do! it has lots of volume for a small board and has a nice sweet spot making it well balanced and an easy strapless board!
the fins are well aft letting it get loose and the deck pad is pretty awesome
get some! |

I love my Mako Duke. I started out on a Mako 150 twintip and the Duke was a great transition to a directional board with a familiar feel. I also have a Mako King 165, but now that I have the Duke, I rarely use it anymore. The Duke is pretty much the same size as the King and does even better in light wind due to the additional volume. Super light, goes upwind well, eats chop, and carves well in waves. The deck pad is super grippy. I use mine with narrow NSI kite straps. A really fun board.
OR also has the new Jester board which is smaller than the Duke - closer to the size of the Mako 150. This would be a good choice for lighter riders.

I bought one, then sold it.
I was looking for a surfboard feel, so I bought a surfboard. |

I rode a Duke for a couple days last Winter in the Sea of Cortez. The layup is light and stiff. The board feel long compared to other traditional surfboards that are equal length but you get used to the long nose feel pretty quick. It more slippery than a traditional railed surfboard. Its strong suited for choppy conditions with swell to play around with. If you want to carve waves, it can be done with a lot of back foot bias and rail control but I wouldn't use it for coastal sessions and expect the same performance as a wave board. I think it would be a fun strapless air board in the Gorge. I hope that helps. _________________ KB4C!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's a bit sluggish with the three straight fins configuration but they have more fin options now.
I enjoyed this board more than I thought I would, my main board is a Secret Weapon too.
What really surprised me is how well it does strapless airs. |
