I want one!
(You thought this was the annual dog on a leash complain fest didn't you?) Smile

i've been looking through all the adoption agencies and having some trouble, so i figured i'd post on here so the HR folks could pitch in.

i'm looking for a medium sized, medium active dog. probably max size around 60ish lbs. that might include bullmastiff, but probably not a border collie. I love them, but they require a little too much for my life availability right now.

i have a young kid (4 yr), so even though i know pit bulls aren't overly aggressive, i'm real hesitant on that breed (as well as a few others).

I'd prefer a puppy (mutt is fine) because my son is a little timid of dogs and I figured that was an easy way to get him hooked, but I will consider anything. small rehome fees are fine (I understand that shots and whatnot cost money).

so, if you see something around, PM me and let me know!
i'll still be searching everything i can find.
thanks!

I've always been a large dog person - labs, retrievers. Until my daughter adopted a small terrier type mutt. I can't take her mountain biking but for everything else - her small size is wonderful..... especially around small kids.

Unless you're getting the dog for protection or to bike or ski with - I'm now a fan of small dogs.

Perfect! Thank you. I went from large (120 lbs) to small (pug). I'm looking for a buddy that is happy at home but loves trips to the park, day hikes and some light camping. I'll check out the adoption sites in hr!

Petfinder.com is the database for pretty much all pets up for adoption. I know several people that found dogs off of it. Puppies are fun but so much work! I have a 10 year old Golden Retriever I adopted when she was 6, she's super mellow, easy, and great with kids. Her only problem is she is such a cold weather dog that I can't leave her in the car if it's more than 65 out. If you get a puppy, I highly recommend the Monks of New Skete puppy book, it has easy tests you can do to determine a puppys temperament.

I too suggest no puppies. Sharp teeth when playing.
I have a 15 # terrier mix and she is the best.
13 mile hike, no problem.
pets take time.
mostly it is training the owner to do and expect the right things.
cascade pet camp training classes++++++
Good luck

If you do end up getting a dog... check out this thing.

I got one for my 70 lbs Black Lab and it is awesome.

Good luck with your adoption.

Thanks all. I have gotten some great advice, but just to be clear, I have had lots of dogs (and puppies) in the past. I'm just looking for a good adoptee and there's a little boy in the mix.

Thanks again!
