My buddy has an old kite and I wanted to know what to do with it... Its a Gaastra GSX 6.2ar / 16M... Great condition but I have no clue as if it needs to be binned or if its still safe to use. I don't like the idea of dumping an "unsafe" kite into the used market.

Thanks!

Every old kite should go out in this fashion! Still need to understand if this kite should be destroyed or sold?

Awesome, I would pay to see that. Might want to double up on lines to get it longer than 25 meters away from you. I have multiple kites you can do this with.

I'd still like to see and participate in a clean-out your gorge garage/closet/rafters old kite tomahawk expo at the sandbar some day. We'd need a fixed object to tether off to ensure the participants didn't get 'hawk dragged to injury. Make it a tomahawk benefit and get pledges.

Rather than landfill, old kites are a useful resource for diy kite builders. If you don't feel comfortable selling, consider donating.

and there are several options for getting reusable shopping bags made from it. Another option is to make stuff sacks for after session wet gear or laundry.

YES!! Once the carnage is over there are many non-profit kite bag companies that will take any shape and size of sail. Win-win.

All great ideas but still don't know if its a safe kite for reuse/sale? Happy to donate if it comes to that but I just don't know anything about this kite.

If it's a 4-line kite, then it's got some depower and someone out there might be able to have some fun with it. If it's 2-line, then it's trash. Anything older than 2004 is trash in my opinion, but hey, people sell old kites on eBay everyday and no one is stopping them.

Sell it for parts. The material can be re-used, the bladders re-used, etc.

That kite is so old, i can't even find a picture of it on the net. But it appears to be from 2002, maybe stopped being made in 2004. Too old to be safe IMO. I'd say it would make for a nice explosion, stuff sack, or shopping bag.

Best has an old for new trade in going on right now. They will give you up to $500 bucks for it towards a new Best kite. Just an option. I'm going to do it with my old Naish AR5. Check out their website.
