Hi Jerp

Aside from specific wake style riding, so much of whether or not your foot stays in the strap is technique during takeoff. Rather than jumping like a wakeboard or snowboard where you're going off a jump, kiting is about getting "pop" out of the board at takeoff. Even with improper technique, you will find that you can "jump" out of the boots/bindings at take off.

I love riding in boots but I almost drowned one time when I was riding way overpowered and had my leash connected to the back of my harness and when I had a fail pass I landed on my back with kite on leash. It dragged me on my back and the board was pulling me under. Since then I connect my leash on the front of my harness. You can still pass the handle that way. Anybody else riding boots have a similar situation?

So, I eventually tried out boots this weekend and I have to say it was lots of fun. It was pain in the a$$ getting them on and off but I had so much fun on the water trying stuff I would never have tried on straps.

The first couple of tacks felt very weird but eventually you just kind of forget about them. The difference they make with loading and popping was the biggest shock at first. I did keep them very loose (great suggestion Stringy) and came it in handy when I under rotated on a backroll and could not swim around to facing down wind

Thank you to everyone for the advice.
