Bend a couple pieces of aluminum mount some straps to it mount it to your sled.
Solid u bolts at bottom with some foam for a ledge and edge protection.

Kiting st helens...... bring some pvc rain gear for down low ...epic when the planets line up.

Regi....exact kind of set-up I'm thinking of. Simple but custom. Nice seeing the older Phazer in your pic! Thumb's Up

Sella, you'll be fine so long as the rest of the guys build you a trail up the steep section by going up and down it a few times. It's really not that big of a deal to get up there.

Here's a good thread for DIY rack ideas: http://www.snowest.com/forum/showthread.php?t=229756
Sella - I used to have a 99 RMK 700 with a 136" track, probably pretty similar to your Arctic Cat, and I was amazed at the deep areas that machine would make it through! Just have too keep your speed up more than on a longer track.

Just picked up a beater sled.
I ordered a new front bumper and a spare belt. Everything looks good mechanically. working on board rack today. I ended up with a 700 136" track also.
let it snow.

Here is an FYI for those buying/registering washington sleds without title in Oregon, which requires title... It'll take 4 to 6 weeks to process the title and they won't give you tags until you get the title back. You can't even get a trip permit for a snowmobile. Considering sledible snow could be in as little as two weeks, that sucks!

P.S. Sella did you get your board rack done? I was going to mount the back rack by drilling through the top of the tunnel, but, there is a little radiator under there. Mine is a 144" but has the same 136" tunnel.

Not trying to call anyone out or poo poo on cheap sleds (sometimes the older low rev machine are bomber), but it's important to get to know your sled (carb boots, stator, new plugs, wires, clutch, pull start, ect). Nothing is lamer than your NWkite buddy having sled problems in the B.C (almost happened to me last year). Now know one is going to leave you, but if your sled breaks down, the "Suck-O-Meter" will be pegged red hot. I recommend taking some shorter trips to test your kit, before P.O.A. I've done that trip enough to know there isn't a whole lot of time to dilly dally.

Thanks Brad for bringing up this topic, maintenance! I would recommend bringing your sled into a good snowmobile mechanic and have it checked out each winter before going into the backcountry. Newer or older they can all have problems and unless you really know your sled you can miss stuff. Here in The Gorge there is Brandon at FunCountry in The Dalles. He is excellent and has caught something on my sled the last two seasons of "pre season" check. I service my own sled and pay attention to detail but missed these things. This year it was part of the front A-arm coming loose. Would have been a real problem had it broke up on the mountain. Like a good boy scout would tell ya, "Be Prepared", that means you and your sled! Ok, enough said, let's get up there do it!

Good advice. When I bought my sled last year I pulled the motor out so I could get a good look at things. I found several items that needed attention.

While up scouting on St Helens last year we ran across a guy who had lost his steering because a nut came loose. We escorted him some of the way back to the road and it was slow going. We left him with his buddy after a while.

It's not a bad idea to keep a few tools with your gear.

Not yet. A friend is an great machinist in The Dalles but "hey I have an idea" takes time. I snowkite with short fat ski's so we are using the running board inside sidewall as a L shaped press mount. Flush fit with the ski's give support off the back tunnel for a strapped carry bag on top for misc and I'll backpack in 2 kites. We are cutting up the tunnel but under the seat and notching it off back. No heat exchanger or track impact and I can still get to get to the back of the sled to throw it around. Very minimalistic using a tow strap as a securing device......because the points being made about your sled being solid is key. (duct tape, jerky and a flask also help.) Some of my worst days on earth have involved a snowmobile out in the attempt of "having fun". I view my sled as only to get me to fairly accessible kite areas that would be a real bitch to skin in. I think many sleds can handle that task. Time will tell boys! Laughing

Well, It took 20 days to get the tags for my sled. Half the time they said it would take.
Anyhow, going to look for snow tomorrow.
MY Ideas right now are:
White Pass or tampico near Yakima. 3-3.5hrs
Bennett pass on Hood. 2hrs
Crater lake. 4hs
Just looking for a road ride.
If anyone has some info on any of these or other areas I'd appreciate it.

We tried to get up to the Plain of Abraham today but didn't make it. Seems like a little more snow is needed to cover the rocks / bolders. I am not exactly sure we are approaching from the right direction but we made a good effort today.

Good effort boys, "never know, unless you go". Still looking bonie in lower elevations. rePete and I scored ideal condition last tuesday. However, the strong east wind hammered snowpack. 5700-6200 looked like this...

Go higher up the Lahar then cut over. Looks like you need another foot or two or you will just end up damaging your sled.

If your friends with your sled I would stay off that terrain with it.

Thats boney.

Its tough to wait..... but that place is a fickle bitch.... wait till you go to the top in icy conditions .....he he he. Twisted Evil

Get some insurance on your sled and you...
