WindZup is kicking off this winter season's Snowkite Freeride Tour, with a Backcountry Jam at Skyline this weekend. The snow is falling and the mountains are waiting to be overtaken once again!

The Freeride tradition continues, gathering riders to the foremost locations to experience Snowkiting. Free 'Learn to Fly' kite clinics and demonstrations are offered for both newcomers, and veteran Kiteboarders looking to test out the latest Snowkite gear. Often flowing with Tunes, BBQ & beverages, the Freeride events provide an opportunity to fuse with experienced Snowkiters and learn the most advanced techniques. Look for representatives from the Ozone Snowkite Team at the major events listed below, and check back to Windzup.com weekly for current details on these and other local demos that will be popping up across the country on this winters Tour.

Dec 2-3 Backcountry Jam - Skyline, UT

A gathering of Snowkiters atop central Utah’s Wasatch Plateau. Kick off the season, sleep in the snow, & ride the wind. The ‘Learn to Ride’ sessions are perfect for anyone trying Snowkiting for the first time, and there is always plenty of expert advice flowing in the chilled atmosphere. Skyline sits at 10,000 feet and due to the elevation it is typical to have solid snow conditions by late November. Many riders make the annual pilgrimage to experience their first good rides of the year, while exploring the miles of seclusion over the panoramic views of Sanpete County. Bring a tent and bivy on the ridge or drop down the canyon to stay at the Skyline Motel, check out www.KiteUtah.com for details on the area.

Skyline is also getting a bunch of new snow right now.

Here's the plan. Leave the Hood early Thursday to snowkite Soldier Mt in Idaho for 2 days then onto to Utah for the backcountry jam session.

My girl and I have been to skyline about 6 times. We have gotten to kite it twice. The place is magic, endless rolling hills, 20 mile view in every direction, plenty of treeless terrain, we had a lot of fun up there. Beware the reason we have only kited 2 out of six times is cause the other four times it was blowing over 35 knots which is to much wind for us to learn to snow kite. We have kited on a stunt kite less the 1 square meter. We have also seen people kite on 16s it the warm sun with nothing but a street clothed. It can be dreamy, to white out, dangerous. It is above 10000 feet which made us lose our breath often. Have fun.
