The season is over...for the most. I know there will be some good days in the next few weeks but at least that summer feel is gone. I have to have that kite fix. Less than a month and ill be in south padre, texas, kiting for a whole week. It will be eat, drink, and sleep kiting. Looking forward to making some real gains. The weather should be nice and the wind blowing. Anyone else been there or any advice.

I'm here now... It's been fairly good this past week, no doubt it only gets better from here. I'm sure when you get here (and I am gone) it will be epic. I did get to kite the north winds from Tropical Storm Karen today though
Don’t count out Corpus if you have the time... So many spots. Every Friday there is a round trip ride from Wildcat to Fajitaville for a beer and then back. A fun 12 mile roundtrip with the locals and crew from kiteboarding.com
I'm already planning my return since I get to fly home and go to work in ice and snow already

We got in to SPI late Friday night, unpacked and relaxed on Saturday then got in two 12 mile down winders yesterday. First northerly of the season! Decent size waves as well. So nice to break out the surf boards again.
Looking forward to a long winter in SPI!

I was there several years ago and had a great time. Since you just want to kite, that is great, since there is not much else to do. Plan on buying a beach pass, for the bay side, at the local kite shop, a few dollars. Very friendly kiters and helpful instructors. One thing, bring an empty kite weight bag to hold down your kite on the beach. The sand on the bay side is hard pack and has ground down shells. So you can not scoop sand on your kite to hold it down. I used a kayak dry bag I had. It is easy to sail out and find your own area to practice. It was great because the water was shallow, even way out, so you can always walk back in on the mucky bottom.

Don't forget to shuffle your feet as you do the walk of shame. There are a lot sting rays down there and you DO NOT want to get hit by one of them. You also want to be careful of where you step as there are sharp shells and broken glass sometimes. DO NOT do the hot launch and drag your feet through the sand.
Anyway, enough negative stuff. It is still one of the safest and friendliest places to kite on the planet. Get a cooler and fill it up with some Lone Star and a ton of water and have a great time!

You ride a Honda? Why not ride the best? Drink the orange kool-aid and ride a KTM! Looking forward to the trip with you, Honda!

Honda,
Do a search in here for SPI topics. Lots and lots of info from the last few years. We're here from now through May. Send me a PM when you get in to town.

Beech, bring them all. You don't need many clothes. I've seens so many guys sitting on the side wishing they had their 6 or 14. If you get lucky, a Northerly will blow thru and it is AMAZING. Bring your surfboard. You can rent a twin tip all day long. People are pretty friendly about swapping boards for sessions.
Looks for a Stripes Gas station with a Green Star. Best fresh tacos and cheap.
Enjoy!
PS. The Bolstads know about everything. Stick with them. Super fun folks. Just look for their colorful kite bus and that is where the wind is.

SPI is great for a week or two...especially if you are learning but that's it. Once you get there. You'll see why.

Yeah, come back to the northwest where it's windy, warm, dry, and cheap.
