When two of the top pros ride flip tips and seem to be
able to stick anything; I'm thinking, hmmmm..... Maybe
there's something too those things:

That is really a beauty!! So far, my 1st generation Hein board has been so loyal I have no excuse to upgrade. I think there really is something to not sharing your board with others so it remains loyal. Wink

That's cool, Hein! Any shots from the bottom? Just wanted to see if you put a "ridge" in it like Brunotti does... Laughing

The release is dialed. no sucking; -clean like
a good non-flipped board. How? Ain't telling,-yet.
I did spend plenty of time tweaking my concept
with the computer.

-Hein

P.S. I almost always have certain riders in mind
when I design a new board. Thanks for taking the
bait, Adam.

haha! God dammit, looks like I'm going to have to buy a new board next year. I would now, but I still need a drysuit and a new quiver... Crying or Very sad

Adam,

I should be thanking you for the inspiration.

I'm sure we can work something out that will
fit your limited college budget (and still leave
you with some spare change for your motor
head addiction Laughing )

I still like how you painted that chopped SX
Brunotti style. So maybe you can do your own
paint and save me the hassle.

Seriously, I'm not trying to force a board on
you but I was wondering how long it would take
for you to respond after I posted that design.

-Hein

P.S. Here's a detail of the flip tip. Hopefully it's not
clear enough to give away the release design.

I call those fins 'blunts' but I think they
have a bit more drag than my current
outlines. It was just something different
to put out there.

Thanks for noticing.

Right on! Looks nice, can't make it all out but looks like a variation of what Underground did a few years ago. I made a board with them modeled after an UG and it worked great. Then everything went short and out went the flip tips, I thought hard about adding them to the twintip I just made this fall but was too eager to get to making kitesurfboards so I went the easy way. I'm a believer in the concept

Nice leash attachment!!

Wow, I didn't know Underground did it too... Looks really similar to Brunotti.

Dereks explaination does make a lot of sense about this design, his website is very good info
they just look like they would stub easily ,
but P.J.C. has been on one of Jon Pexnas' old boards like this and I never see him over the front
Looks very well done Wink
I also think top pros can ride 2x4 better than most of us could ride anything else ,but every little bit helps Very Happy

Based on the session I just had, I'm sold. Dereck's site is just an
over simplification used to show why he thinks it won't work. Perhaps
what he shows doesn't but that doesn't mean there isn't a solution.
The proof is always on the water:

I was able to go slightly off the wind, unhook, take both feet out of the
straps, place my back foot in the center of the board and hang five
off the nose. -with no worries of getting a face plant. In powered
7m conditions (other guys on 10s and 12s as usual)

I was also able to press the nose, lift the tail by leaning way forward
and then spin to toeside. Sickness.

I purposely landed a number of raileys and S-bends way forward.
board popped right up and I rode away. I can't wait to drop into a
steep section with it. Problem is the 5-7 is so good strapless in the
surf that I may never get around to it.

hein,
From looking at the images, your board does not have the step like the production boards. Does this change how it performs?

Hein, that board looks sick! My favorite board is an old Wipika with flip tips. I landed most of my trick the first time on it because it was so forgiving. I haven't ridden it in the surf because it's a 120 and I'd pearl instantly on such a small board. I'd love to see how a bigger one of your would do down the line.
