PostWed Jan 23, 13 1:51 pm    how many will starve? Reply with quote

Just wanted to make sure that we all understand that throughout the last half decade, it has been basically proven that GE farming produces no more "food" by volume than organic traditional farming. It is simply a case of bad math and the money to spread the lie. Point in case, cuba. Due to the embargos cuba was forced to adopt a more traditional method, no fert chem allowed to be sold to them. They have absolutely no starvation issues, even though they do have a sizable population for and island state. Both medical and science teams have looked into this.
Second point Punjab, india. This place was long held as a beacon for modern farming, with GE seed and corperate methodologies. Now one one wants to talk about it at norvartis. Hard to hide math like that.
Just as a side note, I used to project manage some stuff for their chem division when I worked in NJ.
The only way to stop starvation is to hinder population growth, period. Its not really complicated in base reasoning. Organic or GE isn't the easy answer.
And of course the real reason for OG is water quality anyway......
Thanks and eat well. Support local farms and their neighbors children, buy organic.

PostWed Jan 23, 13 2:18 pm    and another question i have? Reply with quote

As there is already a "gun" thing on here;

Why are americans so concerned about the government taking away their guns and seem to care so little about corporations destroying their seed stock for food. Seems abhorently stupid. That gun is not going feed anyone, unless you want to mstart stealing, is that the plan?

Just saying, I'm for all rights, but some are definitely more important than others, I mean c'mon really. Ill take seed stock over blackpowder anyday, unless I need to cortorize something, haha.

Enjoy...

Best post I have ever seen here. There are things that need to be seen by everyone and this is one of them. Good job helping us wake up, much more important than dangling from our puppet strings.

Organic farming takes more water, labor and land than traditional farming since you can't use fertilizer or pesticides. Jesus where do you people get this crap. I grew up in Wisconsin in a farm family you city people make me laugh.

I guess a little knowledge IS a dangerous thing.

Yes the China study is interesting, let me guess you heard about it on NPR. i have talked to doctors and it also has major problems with the way the study was done. That said it is food for thought.

We have a gun problem and food problem because our government is ruled by special interests, Archer McDaniels, farm subsidies for corn growers, wasteful ethanol production, the recent farm bill in congress was a travesty, and even Republicans hate it, only they need the money... same old story

Add the fact the 4th estate was destroyed decades ago and you get this mess.

PostWed Jan 23, 13 3:12 pm    cant use fertilizer? Reply with quote

Um, no. No.
I run an organic farm, a nano vineyard. Use clover as fertilizer, no irragation.
There's your reality for you.

Look up several vineyards in oregon who do it.

And by the way, research, research. Those numbers are so off. Ask any german farmer and we know how they can be.

Do you work for monsanto...?

Right you run a "nano vineyard. Its this kind of simplistic thinking that ruins the debate and takes us back to partisan discussions that go nowhere. You are a HOBBY farmer.

No I love what you are doing, just laying out the reality which sucks. But wishing it was differnt won't change the facts. Our government backs the big boys in everything. If no one goes to jail on wallstreet except small fry, what does that tell you? It is lame.

Yes movies like King Corn are true, but it also true we cannot support the world on organic farming. You would kill 2/3rds of the population through starvation. Might wanna think about that.

I have thought about it.

According to the United Nations A meat-based diet requires 7 times more land than a plant-based diet. 3.5 acres meat based and .5 acres plant based. (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), June 1997)

Where did you get 2/3rds from?

And I guess a hobby farmer had to let you know that OG farming uses fertilizer. You are so well educated on plant science.
And as a final, I know a hobby farmer who just sold his hobby farm and is moving to burgundy to his country estate. His reason, better food.
The french pay up to half their earning on food. We here, buy from huge stores who buy based on bottom line.
That's the real secret....

Done.

A doctor, I tend to listen to listen to edusated people more than partisan groups. Its based on the idea that plants have vitamins and nutrients that are far more complex than pills. It is a healthy way to eat and provides your body with protein.

I never said meat was good for you.. try reading more carefully. Its just not gonna kill you like people think. My grandfather ate meat/cheese drank milk lived to be 85 and was it was cigs that got him. There is a genetic component to age. It is so easy to point to diet alone as our problem, but it is way more complex, thats why Livestrong BS didn't cure cancer right?

Your stomach is about the size of your fist, eat that much 4 times a day and you will lose weight, never feel hungry and burn calories as your body uses them. Meat is wasteful, requires ridiculous energy and is unsustainable. But with Global warming culling the population in 50 years, none of this will matter much.

I hate to be lame again, but its too late for anyone under 10 to have much of a future unless your very wealthy.

A doctor told you that unless your younger than 10, you're screwed?

I know, I know. I'm kidding.

Really dismal view. Glad I havent seen that documentation.

Age is definitely genetic and......, well how many other factors, too many to duscuss.

Here it is, you have a vessel, act accordingly and wh.at will take you out will be either genetic or accidental. That's the plan. Less stress, more complex (see as uncooked) diet, and exercise. After that that its up to the wind, random viruses, and such.

Everyone wants to make it so hard.

The government and corps run this joint, but the don't run your vessel. Own your existence.

And I do appreciate the discussion, its as important as any could be.

Be kinder, more giving, and responsible than they are and you'll make it past 10. I swear to this.

Very Happy Very Happy

Hey, I'm fat. But I have one advantage over the fat one: I ran an Ironman Triathlon and came very close to qualifying for the world championships at Kona, all at 180#. In spite of a yellowjacket sting--which I'm allergic too--halfway through the 112 mile bike course. So I really feel I can say with some certainty that 180# is my ideal weight.

On another subject: Unlike DP, I don't mind fat jokes at all. Hell, I welcome them right now. More motivation to do what needs to be done. What's funny though, is it bugs me when people make fat jokes about other people. I've been one of the fittest people on the planet, and I've been fat. Sometimes the line between the two extremes can be pretty fine. It took one bad incident to turn me from one to the other. All the stupid media reporting on every stupid diet, and not a one of them will ever work. Fat people have a lot going against them. (I've never had this excuse, I've known the truth all along.) There is no magic diet to lose weight--and keep it off. A balanced diet. Burn more calories than you take in. Period. End of discussion. But, that doesn't sell ads and airtime. You can't make an hour long Oprah show out of two sentences. But fat people see this crap pushed at them day in and day out. So they believe it. The FDA pushes this stupid BMI. So people believe it. Hell, some of the fat people you see could be in the "Ideal" BMI range according to the FDA. Depends on the body type. So here's the morons in the government telling this fat person their weight is "Ideal". That doesn't help motivate that person to lose weight, does it? Anyways, next time you see a fat person, remember that except for the grace of God, there goes you.
