I hadn't seen this came back up! It's an old thread, but thanks so much for all of the input!! I am going to try one of those braces; I haven't seen those.

I've been able to ride, albeit far more conservatively. The OR Mako has been a lifesaver. I'm lucky in that only one knee is bad, so I rely on the other leg to take the shock. I'm basically waiting/hoping for a breakthrough in stem cell therapy or better artificial knees. It's funny, I can barely walk down stairs or climb ladders, but I've been able to keep riding! Once the left knee goes, I'm screwed though...
