Where's the place to go if RR is blown out?

With the current and E wind, yesterday I was riding my 13fuel, so today maybe i'll pull out the 8.5wip and hopefully its not too much! the kite does fly a bit goofy when its rigged really loose with the pigtails, but i didn't think my 8.5 would keep me upwind/upcurrent yesterday and i have nothing in between those two.

anyway, flying a loosely rigged kite is much better than watching from the beach! Wink

I think Stevenson will probably be a bit lighter so you could try there. The wind is usually lighter/steadier at Stevenson, but Rooster has much flatter water and way easier launch/landing of course.

The Ponds at Ft Stevens were spectaculaaar in every way Very Happy

12m on a full tide... we hacked it up pretty good. Apologies for not having pics of everyone but it would go without saying that Portland represented well on the coast today boosting huuuuge! Super fun.

Oh man the ponds!!!! I remember back in the day when a certain infamous landboarder who shall remain nameless (*cough* gabe *cough*) would boost from the sand out over the water, kick off his landboard and pop on his kiteboard. Those were the dayz...that was december too!

If only I didn't have to be at the shop at 2:30 today...

What an EPIC day at the Ponds today. Props to River Troll for some sweet and styly spins, Ryan for his HUGE airs, Onad for resucing Barfly's runaway kite and for unhooked tricks, Wind Slither and Bar Fly for showing us all Steez and style... I had to wait until 4pm to hold down a 7 meter, but the solo butter session was well worth the wait. Cheers to all who made it out today. Laughing

there were several of us riding it but mainly topher
it was really weird for me being that i don't use a chicken loop
but i went pretty big a few times(not hard when you are on a nine and should be on a 7)

i still just can't understand why anyone in their right mind would want to use a chicken loop, and one with that much travel for that matter
don't get me wrong, it is great for the beginner to intermediate who doesn't have the board skills to depower their kite

for anyone advanced it should be a no brainer

for me it is such a hassle to hold the bar in to keep power
and let's say you get hit by a gust
when you push the bar away it totally destroys your form cause your butt is sticking out

i rode two different chickens yesterday and was more tired from those 2 20min sessions than i would be from 3 hrs on my pulley bar

my back hurt from reaching out for the bar

just my opinion
i guess i am just a 1 percenter, and proud of it Wink

hey joby - so was that the new Boxer? what size lines were on it? looked a bit shorter.

I tried my 9m on 23m lines yesterday, it was pretty dang sweet for unhooked stuff. The shorter lines I think created less drag and let the kite still fly forward when I was unhooked.

Props to Topher and everyone going big on the Naish kite yesterday... I especially liked the big air + kiteloop combos.... also whoever was on the Fuel and bindings was ripping too.

I had a similar “how the hell does everyone else use this gear” thought this weekend when I used my old twintip. It’s crazy how you have to lean so far back to keep the nose up and the front fins from digging. It is awkward, and also scary if you are doing a carve. Mr. Mocean's story haunted me. Also, it feels so inefficient because it seems like only the back triangle of the board is really in the water. On a directional board with nose flip, I can ride with a much more balanced posture, and keep the whole length of the rail in the water for better tracking upwind. Just riding the corner of a small board felt wacky. It feels kind of fast because so little of the board is in the water and you are bouncing around, but I think directional boards ride just as fast, but feel way smoother and way more connected to the water. Admittedly my twin tip technique has pretty much atrophied to zero, but I still know the difference is real.

Anyways, my question is if there are different twin tip design features that allow the board to be ridden more balanced, without as much effort to keep the nose up all the time? Does a longer board have a really big effect on this? I am convinced my old underground 122 is way too small, but is a 130ish really that much different? Does wider stance help this, or make it worse? Hein, you probably notice this difference. Is this something you tried to improve with your boards, or is this stance just the thing with twin tips? If so, I feel bad for everyone.

Now I understand why some of those old school pros refused to ride twin tips, but I don’t think it did much for their careers.

Tom ridin maybe 50% of the board, but edging hard because of the super nukage at Rooster and holdin down a 9m. You can ride flatter you just need to not edge so hard and maybe have a longer/wider board.
