These pics come from the island of Zanzibar. The sand is the whitest finest sand I have ever seen. Water temp about 89. The wind blew for 3 days. Average wind speed 24 mph. There was an outer barrier reef about 1 mile from shore. The inner reef was waist deep. The outer reef would sport waist high swells that would break in the same spot every time. The biggest problem was not being able to see the top of the water. You would get distracted looking thru it at the coral reef and fish below you.

WOW, thanks for sharing Mark! Zanzibar looks like the most amazing tropical destination in the world. How was the food, accomodations, culture? Did you guys go snorkeling or diving, too?

What size is your Waroo, Mark? Thought you said it was a 9, right? Insanely warm water too. Awesome!

It was a mind opening experience. We stopped by the oldapi gorge and saw the spot where Lucy was dug up. She is our 3.5 million year old mom.
The poverty is pretty sad. However, most people seem to be happy. I guess we dont need to have the latest greatest to be happy.....

Accomodations range in Africa from posh lodges with butlers ( I want one for my birthday) to tents. Food was good. Alot of rice and beans and bread. Meat was tasty but not sure what it was. Something for every budget.

Diving was very good. Visibility was 30 meters. lots of marine life to see.
Overall I would recommend it. The downside is from airport to airport it took 38 hours to get back. Shocked There is not enough free booze for a trip that long!

Ohh yeah, I was on my Naish 18 and 14. However most of the pics are of me on the Waroo 9. I have to admit the range of the 9 is amazing. I am finally coming to terms with it. I am getting the timing of my jumps dialed in. It was very handy out in the waist high reef swell. Being able to turn in on and off was very cool. Everyone should have one in their quiver.

Mark, wow...I know what you mean...I think most people from the states should plan on making a trip to a 3rd-world country. Your right, "It's an eye opener." Help them see what life is can really about. I still don't understand how we can enjoy driving our fancy cars and living in our big ass houses with so much poverty on this planet. People may call it what they want - political bullshit or way of life...Regardless, I think most of us really truely take for granted, things that others in this world, do not have...

Cheers....

The third world .
Not to throw a damper on the bliss of the sky blue water, I love it .
But my Brother-in -law who is a Physician escorted a older gent to Africa for a vacation to monitor his health and have fun , he has now contracted some type of virus(unknown) that is debilitating his nervous system ,he's out of work because of it in Minnesota. He has been to Mayo and everywhere else and the best they can come up with is he got something in Africa or in Jamacia last year.
Very distressing as he is in his middle forties(wife and three kids) and disabled at this point.
There are many things in the 3rd world some not too cool .
