Spotted this on the Seattle forum....

Quote:
Check out Discovery Channel’s “Stunt Junkies” this week, Wednesday September 6th at 10pm EST. What you see will certainly blow your mind ! REAL Kiteboarding’s Jason Slezak will attempt the impossible – a world record 142 ft. ramp to ramp, land gap jump over the infamous Slick Island in Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.

This “Stunt Junkies” episode was shot in July at the REAL Lesson Center in Cape Hatteras, NC. Discovery Channel flew in over 30 of their best film crew and equipped them with cameras, boats, jetskis and a helicopter to get all the best angles of the stunt. While many of us already kiteboard, Discovery Channel will do an excellent job describing how the sport actually works, making this a great show even for the non-kiteboarder.

The airtime of Stunt Junkies is Wednesday, September 6 th at 10 pm. Many of you may have marked Tuesday as the date, but the show is now scheduled for Wednesday, September 6 th at 10 pm EST. We’ve checked out the helmet cam footage to see what the stunt attempt looked like from Slezy’s view. Trust us – this is a show you do not want to miss !

We look forward to seeing you on the water soon !

The Crew at REAL Kiteboarding

Its actually a pretty cool show, mixing extreme sports and science... I'll have to record the kiteboarding one for sure.

Checked the Comcast "guide" earlier this morning and it said it's on at 10:00PM here (so is that not EST?)... Not a big deal, just don't wanna miss it if it's really on at 7:00.

P.S. - Where's everyone riding today?

I am under the belief that it starts at 10:00.

I may head to stevenson, looks good on the sensors. I am nursing a cold though, and have to get a washer dryer for the rental house Sad

I am thoroughly convinced Sauvie 2006 is officially over.

Did it ever start? Wink I had like 3-4 good days there this year. That seems way down from previous years.

Did it go last night?

Btw, I'd qualify good day as well powered on my 13m or smaller and no trouble staying upwind (good current.)

I remember when I was first learning a few years ago getting 5 days a week at Sauvies for many weeks in a row.

LOL. I bought a bigger kite this year to avoid getting more skunked out there. Smile

It went off between 3-5 o'clock (around 15-17 mph) and then completely shut down. Even when it was blowing the current was absolutely nuts and it was nearly impossible to stay upwind unless that was all you were focusing on.

That was neato, aside from the fact that they showed the same clips over and over again... Also, what's the wind in Hatteras like? They say HIGH wind (though I didn't even see white caps), but it still looked like he was on a big kite.

Sleazy shoulda built a new slider. Only build it over slick island, make it longer than anything before it and set the fucker on fire at the last second. Hell, set the island on fire too. And naked chicks...EVERYWHERE. THAT woulda been badass.

unfortunately that is how all their shows are. You have to wade through 29 minutes of the two dorky hosts "mr. cool guy I wear sunglasses all the time" and his side kick "old guy with funny shaped head" blather on about how extreme the stunt is.

He did hit the landing ramp which is pretty impressive but I agree with nate, he should have jumped it naked with the island on fire.

I mean shit, Fonzie jumped a shark for crying out loud!!

The consenus at our house - should have set the island on fire Twisted Evil
Not sure whats the point of a landing ramp - pretty amazing he tagged it.

Did everyone watch the snowmobile dude - he was hardcore - i like how he was in total control as the machine missed crushing his head by two feet - sort of mean making his wife watch. Curious - does anyone barrelroll a motorcycle?

Pretty tough trick to hit that landing ramp. It was funny how when he didn't hit it he'd "crash" (but check.) They must have said something like "hey if you don't hit the ramp make sure it looks like you couldn't ride away"

Guess that's Hollywood.

yup.
yup & yup

Ramp to ramp is just not kiting boarding and while this sport has seen more crossover form countless other sports, bringing gap jumping into kiteboarding is a bad idea. Wasn't it Tanner Hall that broke both of his heals 'gapping' over snow after comin up short?

Personally I'd rather esee them do something like jump the lenght of a football field going thru the goal post on the other end... or somehting but gap jumping?!?!

jp

ps. get those used kites on ebay while the popularity wave lasts!!!
