On Friday, August 12th, Theo Fusban was kiteboarding off the sandbar when he hit his head hard on the shallow bottom. He was airlifted to OHSU in Portland. Surgeons worked for seven hours to repair a severely damaged C5 vertebrae. At this point, Theo still has not regained movement in his arms or legs.

Theo is a German exchange student staying with Cory and Terese Roessler and their sons, Levi and Trey, here in Hood River. He’s seventeen years old, full of life, an avid adventurer, and an amazing kite boarder.

The Hood River Fire Soccer Club (a member of the Dynamo organization) is going to have a “Dribbleathon” on Saturday, August 20th, at 10am at The Marina Green. The Fire players, 12 and 13 yo girls, will dribble a soccer ball for two miles in support of Theo.

They are asking for donations to help Theo’s family in this time of need. As one can imagine, these would be heavy emotional and financial hurdles for any family. They have flown in from Germany to be with Theo at the hospital.

Everyone is remaining positive. Praying & hoping Theo will wiggle a toe, move a finger, & feel a person’s touch.

Also if you know of any positive stories from similar injuries, please post them. He needs inspiration to stay strong.

We want to show our support as a community for this brave young man.

Theo
The Stevenson crew has seen you throwing big kite loops, landing hard, and then getting back in the line up and doing it again. Or if you crash your kite, we just jump around ya and give you time to get back up. Well your kite may be down for a while, but if you look around, there's lots of people jumping around ya and supporting you. I know that same courage and determination will get you thru this too. We'll miss you this weekend in the line up but we'll give a shout-out for you at the BOTG comp.

Take care - Carol and the Stevie crew.

Theo! Stay strong! Some words of encourgement: My brother broke his neck at C4-C7 in a motorcycle accident about 3 years ago. It was a long road to recovery and he had to work really hard in rehab, but he has made it through and now lives a wonderful life back in NY. It will be tough, but stay positive and know that there are many people pulling for you and wishing you the best and you will get through this! Aloha!

Lieber Theo,

Birgit (Julius´ Mama)

Theo, it's going to be tough to keep your chin up through this, I know. Please know that we're all pulling for you and eventually you're going to get through this. Life will get better. Till then, lean on your family and friends.

Hey Theo, Im sorry to hear about your accident. I had a bud in the Airborne we called the Bird. Sounds like you and he were similar. We did a training jump into the desert in California, we encountered some big wind on the drop zone, they try not to let this happen. Anyway, Bird got blown into a mess of things, and broke one of the vertebrae in his back. His resulting condition sounds very similar to you. Dude kept smiling, stayed alive, said this wouldn't change or define him, and it didn't. After about 10 days everything started happening again. Bird was back in the unit and with restored operational status for our next deployment to the middle east. The power of being positive is amazing. Stay strong man, know that you'll be back where you were.

Hey Theo,

I broke my C5 too.

And it wasn't even windy, I was "wakeboarding" behind a stupid jetsky!! Water was about 6/7 feet deep. After a while my friend made a tight turn with the jet sky and the tip of my board caught the wake: I flew like Willy Coyote and OUCH-- landed on my head in about 2 feet of water. I heard a LOUD CRACK inside my head and I thought it was the end of it..

It was 2003. I was in Cape Hatteras. My kite was grounded for a while but it went up again and it's still going, (but I don't hit the ball with my head anymore when I play soccer-Smile

Keep your spirit up and you'll fly again soon..

Gianni
