My head is still spinning from this weekend. What an awesome time!

"Kiteboarding Festival" is a perfect name for it, because its so much more than a competition. Its hanging out with fun people that are all stoked on kiting. It kind of felt like some kind of kiteboarding super session or something. Who knows, I can't describe it... if you really want to know, go next year!

Big thanks to Jason and Jim for giving me their Friday photos onsite and letting nwkite.com get the big scoop with the first photos of the event. I can't wait till we see all the photos. BamBam? Lance? Rich? Jim Semlor? man there were a lot of lenses out there!

Mega props to Ben Chambers, Brian Wheeler, Laura, Eddie, and Tony G. who were all big winners... I know there are others which we will post when/if the official results get sent out (forgot to write them down last night.)

I found the regular awards didn't cover the full spectrum of the event, so here are my picks:

Biggest Wipeout: Shannon G. who won biggest kiteloop and/or wipeout in my book (men or women!) 20 feet up and 50 feet sideways above the kite kind of stuff... Very Happy

Most time spent in the clouds (and crowd favorite): Philipp from Seattle

Purple Heart (Biggest Injury): Tucker, how you doing man, give us an update!

Best Drunken Singer: BamBam

Most Walking Man Beer consumed: Rollo Tomasi

Most spins in the air: Rico

Most Steeze: Inept Fun crew

Coolest Jet Ski: Jason

Best Hook-up with Book Club Attendee: NateDogg

I graciously accept ...
Seriously, and though it’s been said before, Renee did a remarkable job running this event. She was everywhere all at the same time. The logistics for keeping things rolling with all the variability in weather, people and process was a huge task. She’s my hero.

And though there were many others that helped out, Roger was The Man at the launch site. He kept everyone and everything running like clockwork. Knee recovering (limping) but still with pen and roster in his mouth he was straightening lines and organizing a bunch of crazy kiters. Way to go Rog’!

Yes indeed a very memorable event. I enjoyed meeting all the riders and capturing some good images. Here's another from the expression session.
Feel free to PM me if you want the originals.

I'm not usually much of a spectator...but that last "mega-kiteloop-heat" was like a really good fireworks show. As you were watching one great explosion, you knew you were missing another. It was rapid fire and the competitors were really going for it! Everyone in the stands were stoked!

Congrats to the organizers and all who participated!

Very Happy Thumb's Up Very Happy

I hate you guys...

Now I'm gonna get shit from Tak for cheating on him.

But wait, Sauvies Island is in a different zip code than Stevenson yeah? That means I'm covered! Right? RIGHT?

It was a great weekend. Good food, beer, & friends. Hope we all can do it again next year. I can't wait …… There was even someone pulling their first jumps in the competition.

Super props to Renee for organizing an awesome event!

Can anyone confirm that's not Nate? Maybe someone from the book club could answer this one?

The kite paparazzi has been following him everywhere.

WTF? Yeah, I can. Holy shit though, that looks like me. But I was never down on THAT dock. The slingshot dock at night is another story though...
