Tue Jul 18, 06 9:17 pm Tales of the Lone Kiting Trucker |
|
|
Entertainment was not hard to find around the premesis of Rufus last weekend. We were graced by the presence of a mysterious gypsy trucker from Venezuela that was about as bizarre as they come. The photos below tell the story but....
The only story we are missing is Kurt standing at the waters edge dumbfounded with David yelling at him "You're scared like a LADY!" David repeated himself many times referring to Kurt ducking when David was swinging his kite all over the beach (thankfully empty) and Kurt, amazingly, kept his cool. Nice job, Kurt, but we think you could have taken him, in one lick and if not, we would have had your back!

Finally packs up to move on to the next beach assault. |

I was first hand witness to interaction between the Gypsy Truck Driver (GTD), Kurt, and myself. Let me start this with - this was GTD's second day on the water ever with a kite and board (leash made of twine). He seems to come from a snorkeling background as seen in the pictures. As the day continued, GTD was approaching the beach for a landing. He had recently been taught that kiters do prefer to help catch kites as they come in and was gently patting his head toward myself and Kurt. Due to his kite moving at high speeds toward the beach and out of control toward others, I backed away in a tucked position to avoid the situation. I had a session scheduled for later that day and needed my head and limbs to be successful. Kurt graciously moved toward the kite and grabbed it. GTD was a bit concerned about my lady like behavior - running away, ducking, saving my limbs. GTD apparently felt his skills were up to par and i should have been able to catch the out of control kite. He continued to tell Kurt that he too was also behaving like a scared lady. "Why do you (Kurt) have to behave like her (Kim), a scared lady. GTD was not calm about this situation and repeated saying "scared lady". Later that day, it was suggested that GTD head to the sandbar where there were more beginners. He's nothing more than a rufus kiting legend. One of those stories that people will wonder if it really happened or not. We have the pictures.

I would focus on the pictures. However, he did have some fascinating life stories as a traveler. Very impressive life travels.

Kim,
Those photos were classic. I'm going to put a few up on my fridge. That guy was a real nut. I'm guessing that he has been hit in the head one to many times by flying golf balls.
Thanks to you and Teague for being there for me in case trucker and I came to blows. If you guys weren’t rolling on the ground from laughter, you would have been right there to back me up.
Kurt
BTW- Where are the photos of the other characters? I really want to see the one of the guy with board shorts, helmet, v-neck t-shirt, and dishwashing gloves.

Kurt,
I have some great photos but I wasn't sure if the models might be on this forum (?). Wouldn't want to hurt any feelings... but they are really funny! What a great weekend to have the camera out!

Anyone ever hear Utah Jerry tell the story of his alien abduction? Talk about "fascinating life stories as a traveler" holy crap.
